If we were to re-sign NRC it just smacks of short sightedness.

So there isn't another ball winning midfielder we could sign???

Like when we signed Pires because of "injuries". All of Europe to look for a player and we sign a 37 year old hasbeen who can't run and have him chauffer driven to driven.

You couldn't make it up.

It smacks of pragmatism. If money is tight we can get him for nothing and save our transfer budget for other players.

I'm not his biggest fan but he's a useful squad player if he's not after stupid wages.

So if you went out with a bird and you looked after her, took her to the Berni Inn regularly and after a while she said I'm off cos I think the local version of John travolta might fancy me only to ring you up a couple of months later because the only person who fancied her was little Jimmy Krankie, what would you do???

Tough one, maybe take her back for some pity sex and then see what the woman who dresses as Little Jimmy Krankie is doing.

We might save our transfer budget in the sense of big fees, but NRC will be wanting a big fat signing on fee, I'd imagine.

I'd give wee Jimmy Krankie a go.
I bet it would be like riding a cuddly toy.

That's the problem, isn't it normally about half?
In other words, if Reo Coker was worth £5m under contract, you'd have to shell out half that as his signing on fee.

There is no such thing as a free transfer.

Maybe paulie but on the performance of last year he is about as good an option there is. Westwood free, larsson free and reo coker free all make perfect financial sense.

Nigel to return ? Said before he left he is average at best. Where is Juventus , Milan and a "stream of CL teams" (quote from his agent) ? Gary Gardner, Delphi, Barton is going forward. Nigel is history .........

Looks like people are still making plans for Nigel...

Yet if we were to sign a similar player for £5m they'd also want best part of £1m in signing on fees and the same wages, so we'd still save £3.5m or thereabouts.

No sayign we should do it, but if we can't find a better player it's a relatively cheap option.

Financial sense yes and they'd work out cheaper overall than players of equivalent quality that we'd have to pay a fee for.  But footbaling wise they smack to me of mid-table signings and if we're trying to get back to the top 6 then they'd be squad players only.

Unless we see some dramatic action in the transfer market this summer, I think we should all be prepared for something rather less than a shot at the top 6.

I think we're going to have to settle for another one of those pesky 'transitional seasons'

Still, at least it won't be dull (hopefully).
