Dont think your midfield of Adam, Delph & Makoun would work mate. Need at least 1 defensive battler in there. We wont spend that much money either unfortunately. I can see Sturridge going to Spurs as part of a Modric deal now.

Its all a bit tongue in cheek and not to be taken seriously, but i beg to differ with the 2 points you make. If we get £35m for Downing and Young, and are quite likely to offload a couple more topping it up to say, £40m in, i reckon it's quite possible you'll see up to £60m go out the door, new manager and all. That is of course if we can get the players we want, i.e. we don't appear to be quite the shambles we have in the last couple of weeks to potential targets, or aren't gazumped on price / wages by someone else.
The midfield argument, if you check the 2 teamsheets you'll see the point i'm about to make. With a midfield 2, you need a ball winner, sit in front of the defence type alongside someone with energy and a pass in their locker. If you play 3 midfielders, you can get away with not using a dedicated ball winner as long as 2 or 3 out of the 3 have the ability to get around the pitch and put a foot in. I believe Makoun and Delph would, and Adam is hardly a lightweight. Those players need to be able to pass the ball to get the front 3 on the front foot in the final third, all of those can, in fact Adam is a star in that respect.
Just my view of course.
If we have the money available that you think, why would you play a RB at LB?
I like LY but I think he'll be kept as cover rather than as a starter  .... mind you, I suppose that McGinge was quite happy playing Carr at RB for the DS.

I am convinced Hutton will come in on the right and he will try and rehabilitate Warnock on the left. Thus solved 2 positions for 4 million. Put Young and Clarke down as cover, then you are pretty much covered without a huge outlay, so the likes of Dann and Foster can be afforded.

The journo from the Times on Talksport seems convinced Downing is going to go too. 20 million is the very lowest I would expect. Then go and get N'Zogbia, maybe look at someone like Taarabt? Would Wright Phillips or Joe Cole be any use? Cheap certainly.

What about a cheeky look at Adebayor alongside Bent?

Do any of our posters from outside the UK have any winger come forward suggestions that could be useful additions?

He's a twat!
And strikes me as a "typical" AM kinda player. Therefore, instant criticism from doubters. Let's go for somebody with class.
Playing Delph and/or Bannan would be better IMO.

Tony Evans is a shit spouting scouser. Awful Journo. Honestly would not take his word on anything.

I cannot see us selling Downing AND Young.

Rumours quite strong linking N'Zogbia to Liverpool. I can't see them going for Downing then, nor Adam in fact having just spent an outrageous £20m on Henderson.

Interesting to see how Mcleish wants to line up next year. We need some form of exciting signing to replace Young. Question is, will it be another striker, a winger, or a creative midfielder.

Preferred options  for me:

fwd: Sturridge (even if on loan) Anelka,

winger: N'Zogbia, Hoilett, Dempsey

creative midfielder: Benayoun, Kranjkar,

Or someone from abroad I can't be bothered to think of the options right now

I think LY is a full back who's better on the right, but he's still better than Shorey, Warnock or anyone since Warnock at LB. And we seem to be linked to a shit load of right backs, and if i had my way and we sign the players mentioned i think that will take up the budget. Maybe we could get a cheapish LB in to compete anyway.

I've said before, I think Hoillet from Blackburn could be Ashley Youngs replacement.

Given
Hutton - Dunne - Collins - Warnock
Barton - Makoun - Delph
Albrighton - Bent - Downing

Barton? Ouch. I really don't like the bloke, but he's a good all round midfielder.

If it's true that we are going to be looking at players of, ah, a certain price point, then sadly Barton is about as good a midfielder as you could find....on these shores, anyway.

I'd still rather we didn't, mind.

I still think there's life in Joe Cole and if we could get him really cheap it might be worth a gamble. Must only be played in advanced positions though. Not sure about SWP, really looks like he's shot. Definately not Adebayor, seems to be a major troublemaker. Had enough of them this season.

Slightly mental, a huge risk, but potentially so rewarding it's worth it.

Adebayor? Wright-Philips? Joe Cole? Anelka? - I think they're all busted! They'll either be looking for a safe regular income or will simply fail to deliver.
Downing? - I think we'll keep him for at least the first half of the season.
McGinge will be looking for inexpensive players of potential - a la his purchases of Dann and Johnson when he first went to the Sty. There may be one "signature signing" but I think the rest will be not on the radar of the big spenders. It will probably be Adam or N'Zogbia (I hope not the latter; I think he's temperamental).

Nzogbia is temperamental and I cant see Alec going anywhere near him after what Nzogbia/his agent did to him last season........
