If Sturridge is available (then Chelsea are fucking idiots), we should definitely try. I'd imagine Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs would want him too though.

Don't think so.

Spurs are a possibility, but only after they've gotten this big name established striker they want.
Wenger will never pay what they'd be looking for for an English player.
And Liverpool have an established strikeforce now.

anyone fancy defoe?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/18/jermain-defoe-frustrated-football-tottenham

Definitely not.  With him and Bent they would provide zero assistance to the midfielders so we would need VERY solid midfielders which inherently, or usually, have limited creativity.

He looks a good player and certainly good enough to play for the clubs you listed (and us) but would he be a big enough name for those clubs. They will probably be looking for some fancy Dan foreigner so that could give us the edge over the others.

I want a creative player who can play off a centre-forward or as a standard centre-forward.

First choice... Gervinho
Second choice... Odemwingie.

Not sure who else, do any more regular foreign-football watchers have any idea?

Also, who can we get at left-back? Ideally I would want a 'proper' left back, Walker or A. N. Other right back with Luke Young staying to cover / rotate both positions.

If we sell Young and aren't willing to splash out a fortune to get N'Zogbia, Jarvis, or similar... I wouldn't mind Larsson from Blues on a free. He would be able to cover / rotate with Downing and Albrighton fairly well and wouldn't moan about not being in the team as much as a bigger name would.

Defoe is unhappy according to the Beeb, I'd love to see our strikeforce next season consist of:

Bent Gabby Delfouneso and Defoe.

I like Defoe, but prefer Bent and the trouble is, they're way too similar to play together. Defoe would be a big big signing to sit on the bench, or vice versa. And Bent seems to be at the top of his game.

Next season we should have Bent, Gabby, Delfouneso, possibly Weimann breaking through. What we need, IMO, is either this deeper attacking player/No.10 we've talked about, or a targetman TYPE to fill the Carew and Heskey void; a Kenwyne Jones/Niclas Bendtner/Conor Wickham/Johan Elmander kind of striker (I mention these as examples of style not as targets).

If we had been sensible, we should've played hardball over the Milner deal and got him in as the makeweight instead of that little jerk Ireland! Dumb management!

What we actually need, Merv, is a defence!
Walker (if we can prise him away from Spuurrrrrrrrrrs); Olsson (Blackburn) as a defensive left sider; Naughton possibly. A couple of footballing CB (Jones from Blackburn; Dann from the DS; Cahill even). Oh, and a keeper.
If our preferred footballing style sees us playing 4-3-3 / 4-5-1, the existing strikers we have should do it for us (MB, GA and Weimann, plus possibly Delfouneso).
The only remaining question then is whether we need a more established holding midfielder to complement Delph, Makoun, Bannan, Gardner, Hogg, Herd and all the other midfielders we have!

He was already a Chelsea player then.

Another option is to go 433, so we'd have two winger types with limited defensive responsibility either side of Bent.  Off the top of my head Johnson, Gervinho, NZogbia, types.

Well, I agree - I was merely adding my thoughts to the Defoe: yes or no debate.

If I were manager to bring in players

Goalkeeper - Release Friedel and bring in Robinson in goalkeeper with either Westwood or Green as backup.

Right back - sign Kyle Walker and Nedum Onuoha - sell Hayib Beye (Trade him toward a fabulous player from French League)

Central Defender - Sell Dunne and Collins and find a pair of good central half somewhere (Ideally with Vikings/Braveheart spirt)

Left Back - Sell Warnock buy Enquire from Newcastle and one young left back somewhere.

Midfield - Sell Petrov, Reo Coker, Ireland, Young, Salifou and Osbourne. Bring in 3 exciting talents and a defensive midfielder and promote Gardner. I would like a new captain and defensive midfielder to drive the midfield and team.

Attack - Sell Heskey to Leicester - Bring in Gerivinho and a powerful central forward similar to Les Ferdinand of QPR & Newcastle (Retired) Is Daniel Struddige the man.

RB: Walker or Silvio (Braga) or Dabo (Seville)

Just been announced that Silvio is off to Atletico Madrid.

My go.

GK - Brad and Westwood to duke it out for the No 1 jersey.
RB - Walker 5m.
LB - Enrique 7m (luke young to deputise both fullback positions)
CB - Cuellar
CB  - Collins.  Clark and Jones 7m to deputise
CML - Delph - Banana reserve
CMC - Ever Banega - 9m.  NRC or Petrov reserve (one to leave)
CMR - Makoun - Gardner reserve, plus some young prodigy (Fofana?)
AML - Downing.  Gabby and the Fonz as reserve
FC - Bent.  gabby as reserve
AMR - Hazard 17m. Albrighton reserve

Ouch Roughly 45m and I have probably undervalued the value of the purchases.
But we'd recoup 26m from selling Young (15m), Heskey (1m), Beye (1m), Warnock (3m), Dunne (3m), Ireland 3m, so everything will be okay.

Sweet job done, we can take the summer off now.

I would say so.

Newcastle were talking about £15m for Enrique and there's no way Banega will be going anywhere (least of all to us) for much less than £25m.
