id totally agree wiki until last night , but having seen his reaction towards being taken off i think he looks really pissed off at the way hes being used sporadically and now i think there maybe an outside chance of getting him, slim maybe but lets have a go and see what transpires.

Milner is not coming back, get over him

Sadly I think this is right, but we do miss him.

For those who know far better than me, if Gary Gardner is in the Gerrard mould would next year be too early for him to be playing like Torres & Gerrard did in their prime? Bent & Gardner?

I'm not sure what's being asked here. Yes, I think he'll be playing next season. Starting as a #10? I'm not sure about that. I'm not totally sure where his best position is yet. He's a box to box player really but I'm sure he could adapt to playing the attacking role too. He gets into attacking positions naturally though.

The Gerrard comparisons are fair. I'd say Gerrard was in his prime around 25-28. Gardner would presumable be at his best then too.
It all depends who comes and who goes but I would definitely say that Gardner will be ready for a first team squad place next season. He's an exceptional talent.

I could see a loan move happening, not necessarily to us, but if he has no guarentees over his future he'll want regular first team football to get back into the picture for Euro 2012. Lets not forget he started the first game at the World Cup while an Aston Villa player, so Capello doesn't require him to be at a 'big' club.

However, he won't want to give up the Champions League, and when used more in that as opposed to the Europa League he might be more willing to comprimise.

On the subject of attacking midfield, I have to say wee Barry reminds me an awful lot of the young Deco, not only in terms of style but also development. He clearly has all the ingredients, but because of mishandling between 18 and 20 it's taking longer to click than it should have. However, when you consider that at the same age Deco was on loan from Benfica in the Portuguese lower divisions with almost no expectations from uncomprehending coaches (the SLB manager of the time was one Graeme Souness), wee Barry's in a very good position with regards the level he's playing at and the faith his coaches at Villa have in him.

A midfield five of Makoun, Milner and Delph, with Albrighton and Downing wide behind Bent would be lovely. Bent is capable of getting 20, Milner (with license to get forward) 10 and Downing and Albrighton could/should be pushing double figures.

On paper looks perfectly balanced to me. Throw in a centre half who can bring the ball from the back... and a pair of solid fullbacks and we'll be ready to go.

If city get in the champions league then they will spend big and attract even better quality, kaka, wilshire and Schneider were all being linked with them yesterday and if they snatch 4th quite a few will be on their way to be replaced with bigger names.

Of course most would love Milner back but I wonder how many would welcome Gareth Barry if we made a move for him on the cheap?

Don't think we need Barry with Makoun about.

Makoun can play a holding role or a box to box role, he has both in his locker, I can see city letting Barry go on the cheap in the summer and with his versatility at midfield , left back and central defence could be a useful addition at £5m max.

I think what  we need next season is a bit more stability. If we're bringing in new players we need to get them in early so they can all gel together. There was way too much chopping and changing and experimentation going on this season (I know our luck with injuries was a major reason for this). There was a time around October/November you just never knew how our midfield line-up would look. Defence and central midfield should be stable in my view with any rotation taking place on the wings and up front.

We have a lot of cetral midfielders with Delph, Petrov, NRC, Makoun, Bannan, Herd, Hogg and Gary Gardner coming through. I'd like to see the deadwood shipped out early and the boss deciding who he wants in his plans.

Milner could'nt wait to get out of Villa. Soon as he knew C££y wanted him , he was gone . And i know he was really depressed when he thought it was not going to happen.     Good riddance , serves him right..

One thing with houllier is that he likes all his transfer business done by June, phil Thompson said in his book that houllier always likes all transfers done and dusted before pre season , so I'd expect new faces sooner rather than later .

Milner in the centre with Makoun, and Delph/NRC.

It's enough to give me a semi.

Me too and I dispute what Juan Pablo has said. Compared to the Barry saga Jimmy seemed to have a lump in his throat leaving Villa Park!
