Bearing in mind their goalkeeping problems I think we should rest Bent and go with... Friedel, Cuellar, Walker, Collins, Clarke, A Young, Bannan, Makoun, Bradley, Downing, McParland.

Great story, Steamer, well presented & thanks for the name check. I'm fairly sure I wasn't on the coach on the return journey as seem to remember was in a B&B on the Saturday night, returning home on the Sunday ( Worrying that the long-term memory is going as well as the short...) I think promotion was clinched during the week, 0-4 win at Sheff Wed then the much mentioned Sunderland game clinched the Championship?
We're well into "Memories" territory here, back to the present, 3-2 to Villa, having gone 3-0 up after an hour then in true Villa fashion contriving to raise all our blood pressure.
And Gerard to give Holloway a wet sloppy Gallic kiss on both cheeks to show no hard feelings.

Makoun didn't due to calf injury but should be fit for today. Hasn't petrov retired from international? Or was that just a dream I had?

This is how I remember the Sunderland game:

The Blackpool game was brilliant, we were building up so much momentum, a League Cup win, great football and heading for promotion, nobody wanted to miss a game no matter where it was. It was a midweek game and I remember my dad coming to my school to take me out early. As usual they'd be loads of cars with Villa scarves hanging out the window as we drove up. We were Saunders' Army and there was no stopping us as we invaded Blackpool. Magical times.

Your memory is playing tricks on you, Mark. Blackpool was on the Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday was the midweek game when their end was full of Villa and we clinched promotion.

I was supposed to be going to Blackpool with my mate and his dad but they let me down. Didn't let on to my mom and got the coach up on my own. Not having a clue what I was doing when I got there I paid to get into the wrong stand then had to ask a copper to let me change ends. Another copper then accused me of trying to take a weapon into the stand, it was a Mars Bar, and said I either had to eat it or he'd have it. So that left me, just a school kid, on my own with nothing to eat and hardly any money. It was fantastic.

Petrov is on 99 caps and is listed as Bulgaria captain on Wiki so I doubt he's retired just yet.

I agree with that but why does a keeper have to make a "howler" in order to make a mistake?  As proper football fans I'd hope that we can see more than the blatantly obvious and if people can't see that he has had way more than one bad game then they are not watching.  As another poster said, our defending of corners has been awful this season and we have conceded more goals from set pieces than ANY other team in the league.  His movement off the line is suspect, he seems to rush out even when he has no chance of getting there before the striker.  The keeper simply must carry the can for that.

Bit surprised how my original comment has led to a full blown debate big Brad. Whatever your opinions on him, it really doesn't have much to do with him.

Simple fact Richard Kingson is a terrible terrible goalkeeper, who we should exploit to win this game. It would be hard to find a worse goalkeeper in the EPL to division 3 who has had more minutes on the pitch. He will fuck up at least twice today we have to take advantage.
