I think the mitigating circumstances that Toronto is referring to, is , amongst others, having 11 squad players crocked.
There isn't a team in the country that wouldn't struggle with that.
Things are turning round, all be it slowly and we'll be challenging for Europe next season.

Who knows, maybe this Manager might actually be interested in European games?

I was responding to someone else's post before you jumped in with your "We shouldn't be in a fecking relegation fight, regardless of any difficulties we have had to deal with" rant.

However, If I'm to answer your question, I also hoped we'd be in a better position, but unlike your statement of "regardless of any difficulties we have had to deal with", I accept there have been factors beyond the control of the current management team that have contributed to the current position that need to be taken into account.

I think three things have contributed to us being where we are.

The first was MON leaving, which, no matter how much Villadawg would doubtless prefer us not to think about any more, fucked up the season right from the off.

The second was the collection of a truly hideous run of injuries, which would have tested any manager or club, let alone one with a patchy squad with notable weaknesses like ours.

The third has been Houllier not delivering the results he should have. I can see what he is trying to do, and I like the way he likes us to play, but he has also conspicuously failed to deliver anything like a decent run of results. Long term, I like his thinking. Short term, it really has been very poor indeed.

The timing of this sacking makes no sense. AFTER the transfer window has closed and AFTER an away defeat at the club 3rd in the table. It's just stupid.

di Matteo MAY have deserved to be sacked on results recently but so did Houllier.  The difference is that there was nothing to be gained by sacking him.

Olbiyun deserve to go down because of this.  Not that I really care, just highlighting the twat of a chairman they have.
