strange - if they win their game in hand, they'd be level on points with us, this despite having spent far less. With him gone, as well as Roy Hodgson and Chris Hughton, Houllier must be counting his lucky stars that he  has such a patient boss as Randy.

very different set of circumstances though. This is di Matteo's team that's sliding down the table, whereas GH has only had a few months with his side and one transfer window. Had the situation been in reverse, and GH had been here a couple of seasons, now with his own players, Randy would have every right to be questioning the manager. Too early for that.

Our results this season are unacceptable. We shouldn't be in a fecking relegation fight, regardless of any difficulties we have had to deal with.

Why does he get gardening leave? This suggests disciplinary issues to me.

I don't disagree with the fact we should be in a better position, but I'm also not shocked that you're willing to dismiss entirely the mitigating circumstances.

So they don't have to pay him off. They will be hoping some other club comes in for him and then they can agree to let him go without compensation... on the condition he waives his right to a pay-off. Disgusting way to treat him.

Any amount of chaos and disorder at The Yawnthorns is good news for us. They are in freefall.

Sorry I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me. Or are you saying its OK for you to think we shouldn't be in a relegation fight but not OK for me to think it?

I think the mitigating circumstances that Toronto is referring to, is , amongst others, having 11 squad players crocked.
There isn't a team in the country that wouldn't struggle with that.
Things are turning round, all be it slowly and we'll be challenging for Europe next season.

Who knows, maybe this Manager might actually be interested in European games?

I was responding to someone else's post before you jumped in with your "We shouldn't be in a fecking relegation fight, regardless of any difficulties we have had to deal with" rant.

However, If I'm to answer your question, I also hoped we'd be in a better position, but unlike your statement of "regardless of any difficulties we have had to deal with", I accept there have been factors beyond the control of the current management team that have contributed to the current position that need to be taken into account.

I think three things have contributed to us being where we are.

The first was MON leaving, which, no matter how much Villadawg would doubtless prefer us not to think about any more, fucked up the season right from the off.

The second was the collection of a truly hideous run of injuries, which would have tested any manager or club, let alone one with a patchy squad with notable weaknesses like ours.

The third has been Houllier not delivering the results he should have. I can see what he is trying to do, and I like the way he likes us to play, but he has also conspicuously failed to deliver anything like a decent run of results. Long term, I like his thinking. Short term, it really has been very poor indeed.

The timing of this sacking makes no sense. AFTER the transfer window has closed and AFTER an away defeat at the club 3rd in the table. It's just stupid.

di Matteo MAY have deserved to be sacked on results recently but so did Houllier.  The difference is that there was nothing to be gained by sacking him.

Olbiyun deserve to go down because of this.  Not that I really care, just highlighting the twat of a chairman they have.

Dudley is an area of chimpanzees and penguins.   My money is on Kevin Mac.

If you are on gardening leave and being paid to be on gardening leave what happens if your employer comes round and you are in fact insulating your loft or building a model of the Arc de Triomphe with ear wax?   Does that constitute breach of contract and no pay-off?

Think they'll go for an up and coming Championship manager.

Wouldn't surprise me if they approached Swansea's Brendan Rogers, he plays a nice passing game.
