Think the whole think smacks of desperation personally

A bit like Small Heath painting the soles of their boots red and having the pitch exorcised.

and the Villa are showing we're the best in the land....???

Well it was mainly old Steamers and C-Crew, so pretty accurate in their day.

Percy totally agree

I remember it at Anfield last game of the season in 85 when we lost 2-1 and it went on for literally the whole of the second half

Remember it being belted out at Norwich all through the game (night match, League Cup Quarter Final mid 80's) loads of Villa there - a great night.

Now, When You're Smiling is a great anthem, replete with razzamatazzy bit at the end.

Sorry to be a killjoy but I just don't see the point in a club anthem.  It smacks of American style cheese and will most likely have absolutely no tradition or historical attachment to the club whatsoever.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Whatever we sing, I hope that the ground is a cauldron of noise on Sunday.

Fair play to everyone who was involved in setting this up and who turned up on the day.

If i'm honest, I find the song a little dreary and uninspiring. I'm hoping i'll change my mind when I hear a couple of thousand singing it.

I recall it being sung when we beat Spurs away 2-0 the season when we were runners-up under Sir Graham Taylor.  It just kept going, the "best in the land" lines getting louder and louder, faster and faster.  Genuinely, it was superb.  What better way to lift the team than by telling them they're the best bar none?  White Hart Lane was silent and this song just kept rolling out.  Stirring stuff.

Fantastic and well done to all concerned.
Was that the night of Ormondroyds wonder strike? One of my favourite away trip memories with the Villa, we went top of the league that night.

It was.   My main memory of that night was Gordon Cowans out-foxing the opposition's entire midfield.

Yeah, I hope we turn Villa Park into a real colander of atmosphere.

The Bells has lots of Villa tradition, you sound like the noses over on Small Heath Alliance who think we've just plucked this song from nowhere and that we've stole it from West Ham. They're not the brightest that lot.

I go along with everyone else aswell, we need the ground to be rocking on sunday, not just a few in the Holte. If you're in the side stands sing up and lets get VP rocking again.

Agree, we really need to put a bit of fear into the opposition on Sunday.

Also just a quick word about the fans up at Goodison, who i thought were fantastic. I think they spurred the players on.

My main worry is if the team go behind and things turn nasty like against Wolves, at Everton the fans didn't stop singing even when they went 1-0 down, Darren Bent said it really spurred the team on.Saying that we can't possibly be as abject as we were against Wolves ,I think they'll be well up for it

My favourite rendition too. I went a couple of weeks earlier for an FA Cup replay, hardly any Villa there, and was telling Norwich fans that in a couple of weeks we''ll be back like we own the place. They scoffed but I was right. Great support the second time.

Going back to page one of this thread, which is where I started reading it, the song "just can't get enough" was mentioned.  I skipped to reply without seeing the bells are ringing posts.  Now that does have tradition but some of the other stuff definitely does not.
