I was told many years ago by somebody who is very reliable about a recording made of Sue Lawley.

I think there have been lots of recordings of Sue Lawley.

The Police did one didn't they?
Very good - wish I hadn't read it with a mouthful of tea though, as most of it's now down the front of my shirt.

Clearly a qualified Asst Ref would know the offside rule, but not many women !

Keys said that *a qualified match official*  wouldn't know the offside rule *because she was a woman*.

It's different, I hope you see that.

And if I hear the word "banter" again I won't be resonsible for my actions. The new catch all excuse for ignorant, ill-judged and puerile statements.

Yep, was about to post something similar to this. It seems to be a get out excuse for morons who want to cause maximum offense yet get away with it. Its as if saying 'it was banter' means everyone should understand that they shouldn't take offense. Note that it only becomes 'banter' after the offensive thing has been said and the person is brought to task about it.

Do you know a woman who knows the offside rule ?

Most men don't know it, I get confused by it  - and it's a long-standing inter-sex joke that women generally don't know the offside rule.

Clearly a qualified Asst Ref would know the offside rule, but not many women !

Well if the woman in question knows the rules then whats the big problem?

This issue has brought a few people out of their shells, its mad.

If they'd joked about it on a chatshow, like "Loose Women" which is becoming the catch-all example for all the people out there who are refusing or unable to engage their brains, it would have been alright.

If a member of the "Loose Women" panel was recorded off-air saying person X could not do job Y, because they are male, I would accept the same negative publicity.

Argue all you want about the severity of Gray's punishment, but the argument is cut and dried. I was going to say, balck and whitem but didn't want to put it in the same sentence as "Gray".

Richard Keys with the longest suicide note ever heard. He needed to consult Max Clifford or someone before this, as he's given everybody enough rope to hang him.

Fair enough, just wondering why you'd claim that most women don't know the offside rule. It doesn't have anything to do with the matter at hand.

Borrowed but still: Keys will be alright.  He's always got that Cadbury's Dairy Milk drumming advert cash to fall back on
