I wonder why he switched papers. It can't have been about the quality of the product.
Really, are they on that kind of money, I'm surprised.
Samuel's start date at the Mail is under negotiation; industry sources have told MediaGuardian.co.uk that he will be paid a salary in excess of £400,000.
I wish these journalists would stop quoting £24m..... the fee was £18m. The rest are add-ons, and for the amount to reach £6m, making the final eventual fee £24m, Bent will probably have had to have scored 100-plus league goals for us, shot us into Champions League football, made 200 PL appearances and reached 50 caps for England. In which case, we'd have the best striker in the country. And Martin Samuel... I liked him when he wrote for the Times, gone off him now he's at the Mail. I wonder why he switched papers. It can't have been about the quality of the product.
read the entire sunderland thread its page 11 before anyone goes oh shit. before then its al op bashing lol. interesting to see this tho.The SituationI've just got onto a computer after being told the bad news.Firstly, thanks Skunk Hater for the information, you were spot on again as usual.Secondly, my own thoughts. It's a shame Bent wants to leave and I can only think things aren't right for him behind the scenes. Bent handed in the request yesterday according to SAFC, so either he's done a Cana and sorted the deal out with his agent behind our backs or Villa have had a deal on the table for a while, we've rejected it and Bent's handed in the transfer request then. Either way it seems strange that he'd leave us for Villa given our respective league positions and future prospects so I'd suspect things haven't been right for him behind the scenes and he wants to get away, hopefully we'll find out in time and both SAFC and Bent will be honest to us as it's the least we deserve. Many very good players have left this football club over the years and if anyone wants out then I wouldn't stand in their way. We're SAFC and we'll still be here long after Bent has finished.. not the same situation off here is it by any chance?

I claimed the username The Situation first...
I think they are very similar to us, a big club with a seemingly good owner who backs the manager without interference, we are both always going to struggle to attract the very best players and keep hold of the ones we do have. They are just going to have to take it on the chin because it wont be the last time either club loses a player they want to keep.
