And again a story about Randy's perceived parsimony comes indirectly from O'Neill himself. Like that bollocks in the Guardian about Lerner's 'spiritual departure.' He didn't give you the money because he didn't trust you. Get over it, fuckface.

Well of course he's panicking. We all are. If it takes being in the relegation zone or currently just above it, then we know his trigger point. I don't care. I'm glad we've got some signings, at last, which will hopefully lift things. I do care about the "predicament", so it's not a time for breaking out the cigars and back-slapping just yet, we do need some results. I'm not convinced either this is all part of some great masterplan, given where we find ourselves, I doubt this money would have been shelled out if we were comfortably mid table. It's a bit like congratulating BP on their work in cleaning up the Gulf of Mexico.

You know thinking about it, I'm going to just trust Randy, he knows what he is doing, he has had his fingers burnt by Martin, hopefully he is now leading us on a route to success.

lol yeah, it certainly has been a steep learning curve. You dont become a successful business man though from not learning quickly and not making the same mistakes again.

The difference is when you're running a football club, if you do make any mistakes then they're quite public ones!!
Not that i'm classing MON as a complete mistake just the giving him carte blanche over the football club

As soon as he bangs in a couple of goals, the whole price tag thing goes away. I liked JPA very much, but he never quite put his transfer fee out of mind.

I keep having the thought that the Villa way is for him to either go 3 months without a goal or to do a Luc Nilis. I'm just being silly though, aren't I? That can't happen.

I more or less had the same thoughts ...oh what has Villa done to my optimism

Excited as I am by the potential signing of Bent I can't help but think back to other strikers who were record signings. On one hand Tony Cascarino and Stan Collymore and, with the glass being half full, Peter Withe.

Comical last sentance but i don't totally agree. Although i do wonder whether some significant funds will be coming back in if you know what i mean. Still, if we are a better side for it, great.

There have been mootings at times throughout the time Lerner has owned the club that there was a frustration with MON not being willing to buy that marque player.

We have agreed to buy the 3rd highest premiership scorer in the last 5 years, edged out by a goal. Can't say fairer than that.

Chris, likewise with our luck, and GH's so far, he will be crocked first game.

Lets hope he has the effect Dion had in his first couple of years with us.

If that is the case then any Villa fan going to it is going to be very lucky indeed.

Absolute bollocks

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/8265494/Randy-Lerners-panic-purchase-of-Darren-Bent-is-evidence-of-mounting-desperation-at-Aston-Villa.html

We all know if Liverpool had pulled this off it would have been 'Liverpool show intent at returning to the big time' and other such shite. The amount of crap that has been written about Villa so far this season is fucking ludicrous. All of a sudden, a lot of journo's have had a massive poke in the eye after a few months of kicking us when we're down. The knives are out. Bollocks to them.

If this is Mr Lerner panicking I'll be tickled pink if he is still feeling shaky enough to unstrap for another couple of quality signings.  This puts us only a couple of players shy of being a really quality outfit.  I'm chuffed.  Just the tonic the club needs also, we will be able to afford to let go of a couple of the unhappy voices in the dressing room at this rate.

If this doesn't happen now I'm going to look like a right prick in the boozer tomorrow, I've just spent hours laughing at all my non-Villa mates.

One goal in his last eight games.

He's already had his dry spell for the season.

*nervous laugh*

Mind you, he even failed to score against us.

*serious face*

The only thing that worries me is the potential for irony in Saturday's game. If De Jong doesn't get him, I have a sickening feeling it'll be an innocuous challenge from Milner or Barry that snaps his leg like a twig.

He's pretty good at taking penalties too I seem to remember.
