Maybe we could do a part exchange and send them Ireland. That would bring the price down a bit and he gets his move back up north.

It might send the price up.

From reading round various news sites, the total fee that sunderland will have to pay spurs is 16.5m, which is surely having an impact on what he is costing us, still as has been said proven striker he will get us goals, which we have been missing for more than just this season.

Fair point.

I thought Sunderland signed him for 14m?

He's gone there and scored 30 odd league goals in 18 months so they were always going to make a profit on him.
My bad. £10 million was the initial fee... obviously that went up because Spurs are tight pricks.

Still, it's a lot of greedy profit Sunderland are looking for after a season and half. It's like dillusional Spurs fans thinking Gareth Bale is worth £35 million plus.

You pay for what you get and if Bent's gonna bang in the goals, then I guess he's worth it.

Isnt Bale better than Messi and C.Ronaldo combined tho????

Seems as though he may well be unveiled tomorrow , we have moved quickly to get this deal done, I have heard rumours that Adam will be arriving too but not sure how accurate they are, let's pack the ground out on Saturday and give darren a great welcome to our club.

There was a story that we are trying to fast track makouns permit, with a villa supporting pm you never know, we gave that feelgood factor back now or at least most of us do-great day to be a villa fan.

I wonder how this has gone down amongst Sunderland fans.

I expect he will go to a bigger club than villa, maybe liverpool.

I'm gobsmacked here, gutted. it's all very well getting £18-£20m but you've got to find 20 goals a season and I think (aside from yesterday) Gyans a scorer of great goals not a great goalscorer. Can Welbeck and Campbell step it up?

One eg, here's another..

Here's a thought ... Perhaps this explains something about our supposed interest in Owen?
this feels like when Marco left! I'm sat here stunned.

But on the other hand..

Sunderland til I die.

So despite my disapointment on hearing the news my considered response is - meh. Hes been shit lately and doesnt exactly contribute to a flowing footballing style. Hel be difficult (but not impossible to replace). That said £18m would buy us almost anybody except aunty Carrol.

Just looked at one site - they're shocked (so are we), a bit down but not hysterical (unlike us most of the time).

Suppose its the same as when we lost Milner, good player but we're getting a LOT of money for him..

Bent and Gyan are very similar players so Bruce can take a profit on Bent and spend that on a n other, it looks good business from thier poit of view

There will always be an element of 'let him go/he's overrated' sentiment from the selling club's fans.  It's how we all deal with the loss of a top player...

...Hang on! I'm sounding like someone who's bothered what they think.  Fcuk 'em!

Exciting times. The fee does smack a little of desperation though. Not sure what this means for gabby really. Two fwds of their relatively lye technique would leave us fairly predictable I reckon

Sunderland's a good club, I won't begrudge them european football as unlike their neighbours, they seem to have level headed fans. 6th place is theirs to lose anyway.

Don't a few post on here sometimes, Flan?

Its theirs to lose? There's just over half a season to go. They can finish anywhere from 6th - 16th.

It means he's got to get his finger out & show that he deserves to be in the side. He's also on a long term contract which means if he is to be sold we can keep the price high.
