Yes it was Eamonn. Maybe Sunderland have decided that this time it is too much not to take.

He wouldn't have been good enough for us then.

In that case neither were Gabby or Carew. Bent would have scored plenty more than those - possibly not done as much donkey work as Gabby but he certainly would have finished all those one-on-ones Gabby specialises in missing.

The report reckons he was coming down for a medical. All a bit too good to be true, but hope i'm wrong. I reckon the money is coming in for Young personally, but i would swap Young for Bent considering we have 2 other good wingers and have nit had a goalscorer for years.

Sunderland haven't agreed fee or terms yet apparently, can't see much happening tonight. So many different versions of events going about, sky have reported 4 different versions themselves , agreed, not agreed, going, staying, maybe?

I'm sure things are much more complicated than they seem, but if, as widely reported, Bent is in the area waiting to undergo his medical, then you'd have to say that a)he is very keen to join us, and b) he is pretty confident of doing so.

I think this would be an incredible signing, if it comes off. And not just for the fact that we'll be getting an outstanding goalscorer - if it happens, this would surely send out a few very important signals, namely that we're not broke, we're still ambitious and Randy Lerner is still as fully committed as he has ever been.

The Sky Sports "up North" man said that nothing had been agreed and Niall Quinn had left the Sunderland ground. He said and the Sky Midlands man agreed that any fee is likely to be paid in stages/instalments and that Sunderland would only receive a quarter of the £18m up front so they may stall as they cant get a replacement for £4.5m+ (I presume that instalments happens in all xfers)

I'd be effing delighted with this transfer

I've literally wanted him at villa every season since he was at Ipswich

fantastic stuff

I wonder if that will end our incoming activity in the market?

I'd wager still being in for Adam, but little else after that. Left back loan maybe?

We still have a bid for Adam and a left back is a priority so I reckon another 2 in at least .
Not sure it anything will happen regarding samba but I would expect a few outs, davies, warnock, Carew, Ireland.

Mate just rang saying his brother is stood next to him and one of the villa medical staff at some private hospital in brum. I watched the news item on Sky and the guy said about the cash being paid over the next few years. Thats pretty much standard isn't it? Sunderland will surely do the same thing when they replace him.......

Bent's an improvement over what we have, no question.

Only worry is, from what I've seen, he's likely to miss two easy chances for every one he scores.

No way worth 18million but I guess you have to pay what it takes or go without.
