Cough.....Les Ferdinand... cough

Don't even go there!  The only club that could possibly scupper this is Liverpool, as they need a striker as much as us.  Can't see them offering the money that we have though.

Where was this money for MON? I presume that's why he left?

Would you have trusted him with it?  I wouldn't have left him alone with my lunch money.

If he does take over at Wrist Ham, we should make a £15m bid for Parker, wait for the dildo sellers to accept and then withdraw it.  Just to piss him off.

I dread to think what M'ON would have done with that money. Mcgeady and Keane, shudder.

Looks like he wants to come - great news, talksport say maybe ashley young will go to finance the deal but if so , then I'd still be happy to get bent.

What are they basing that on?

I remember similar things being said soon after we spent a fair whack in the summer 2008, Phil Thompson and others said we'd have to sell to balance the books.

They all know fuck all. They just recycle words they have picked up in the media. What does that big nose twat know  about re-balancing finances!

If we pay £18m for Bent, this isn't an act of great benovolence by Lerner it's simply an illustration of the dire straits we're in. We can't afford to get relegated and we clearly need a striker, just like we did last summer before we got into this mess. Perhaps the club didn't think we needed one last August but not to buy one now would be negligence. Hopefully it's sunk in that not only to stay in the top six, but just to avoid the risk of going down in this league, you need to continually invest.

He'd definitely be a good signing for us, excellent news.

Looks like Downing could be off as well, a good news day all round!

I hope he stays as he has been one of our steadier players.

It's the recycling of the James Milner money is it not.

I'm trying not to get excited just yet, I struggle to see this going through just as its Houllier making this happen, or trying too!

What exactly does that mean? So far he's wanted five players, signed three of them and another failed a medical.

Meaning that I think that D Bent is a top top signing.  The Makoun, still unsure about yet another defensive CM.  Pires, move on and I'll him off with the Walker signing, that is top.  Ive just never seen a target like a Bent who I very admire go through.  Just not counting the chickens, etc.

Really hope this works out, like many clubs we need a striker.

Too expensive of course at first view, but if he weighs in with the goals worth every penny.

Just a byline to all this, if they didn't trust MON with the money, they should've sacked him in May. But it may be, as I always suspected, a lot more than just a questions of funds and more a question of power.

I agree, Downing has been great. Without his goals and assists we'd be in even more shit. Why are people so keen to ged rid of him???

You also get the feeling that the Villa hierarchy are working as a team, rather than not all waiting to see if it is OK with MON.

That's fine, but one thing we've seen so far is that when Gerard wants a player, more often than not he's got him.

it is still real, actual money being spent - if we hadn't spent it, it'd be in the hands of our tightarse, won't-invest chairman.

I know he has a great record in the prem but isn't he the penalty taker for them? Still a great signing if it comes through
