Petrov insists players are desperate to address bad run
« on: December 29, 2010, 01:37:33 PM »
From Pravda:

Quote
Stiliyan Petrov insists Villa are anxious to quickly address their poor from following back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Man City.

The skipper made an unhappy return to the starting line-up at Eastlands on Tuesday as the claret and blues were well-beaten 4-0 by Roberto Mancini's outfit.

And the Bulgarian insists responsibility lies solely with the players as Villa look to recover from the double festive setback.

He told AVTV: "It was not good enough, obviously because we lost 4-0. We started and without them really creating anything we conceded two goals.

"They were two easy goals and when you go down 2-0 it is hard to come back.

"Like I said before, it is up to us to sort things out. We are not doing good enough at the moment and we just need to sort it out.

"How we do it - that is up to us. We need to start working harder, believe a bit more."

Petrov admits the most frustrating aspect of the City loss was the two early goals that dented Villa's confidence.

He said: "You come here and you know what quality they have got. When you are down 2-0 in 13 minutes it is very difficult.

"But we are not looking to blame somebody else, we blame ourselves.

"We can talk about this and that and if somebody made a mistake - we just didn't play well enough.

"For us to get out of this situation we just need to start performing."

As opposed to circus clowns, perhaps?

Getting a bit pissed off with hearing that it's hard to come back when your 2-0 down 2-1 and you're putting the opposition under pressure and back in the game.Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh !! Seriously worried about the mentality that's being instilled into our players

Petrov is one of the main culprits too often caught in possession and behind the pace of the game, I know folk will say he is not match fit, so tough he should not be playing then.

We blame ourselves and apologise to the fans who made the trip and will refund their tickets, blame ourselves apologise to the fans and will win the next 3 games or blame ourselves and carrying losing, not trying and pocketing £60k/week?

my anger is in many ways more at the players - cant be bothered reading what petrov says - actions speak louder than words.

Hmm, same players as last season, more or less. And it's their fault. Baffling.

It's the defence that's been the main problem this year. We're shipping goals for fun. Cueller and Collins could start performing for a start.

I'm not sure what else you all would want him to say-if he said 'We're crap, I resign'-would that make you happy? At least he is not talking about wanting away or blaming others.
I am as pissed off as most people but at some point we have to draw a line and be more positive. Many of us have experienced worse shit than we have now and even though it is another low point, I am still confident that we can turn this round .

The comments below the original post are about as predictable as the original piece from "Pravda". :-)
