Southampton vs Aston Villa 2001

&NR=1

Remember this one?  We had just won 3-1 at Anfield a few days earlier and we looked like a really good passing side, particularly going forward.  How we played so well with Hassan Kachloul and Mustapha Hadji I'll never know but we did.  Remember Marion Parhars?  Kevin Davies playing for Saints too!

Memories Section in't it.

But yeah, hard to believe that in a couple of 8-12 game sequences under Gregory we actually played sexy football. Feb-May '98 when he first took over with Yorke, Collywobbles (for the Liverpool 2-1 win and home game against Aletico anyway) and lil'Lee all on-form in particular.

Was it the last game of the season? The one where some of our allocation went in fancy dress?

Am I mistaken or was that Mr B Balaban celebrating Hadji's third?

I was posting that Saints game due to how good I thought we were at the time.  That City game was 3 years later, and we were crap.

Is that the game where Balaban missed the one v one? How different his Villa career could have been if that had gone in... or maybe not!

Not sure though he did come on at Anfield the week before I think.

I really liked the signings we made that summer, Mellberg came in and also Schmeichel...

Started off that season really well, were top in October and then it all predictably fizzled out around Xmas.

That game at Arsenal when we were 2-0 up and lost in the last minute also stands out from that season.

Schmeichel was an awful signing, used to go down in stages, replacing James with old red nose was a dreadful decision imo.
