I'm with Adrian Durham on this one - we ought to pull out of Fifa.

Bollox to them.

Let's host our own 'World Football Championship' every 4 years - starting in 2015.

I'm not so sure, could you imagine FIFA telling Mr Sky, Mr Coke and Mr Addidas that Rooney, Drogba, Fabregas et all won't be appearing in the chumps league?

The sponsorship money men will have a final say in matters when it comes down to it.

We'd be banned from every competition, they'd move abroad.

We don't need Fifa for European Football as it is UEFA we need.

I can't see us pulling out from Fifa and staying with UEFA. It sound daft.

2018 in Russia makes perfect sense to me. A World Cup in Eastern Europe was long overdue.

However, 2022 in Qatar ? That's one that has no footballing merits at all. If FIFA wanted a Middle Eastern host then, Eqypt, Saudi Arabia or even Iran had a better claim from a footballing standpoint. The Aussies should have got 2022

There wouldn't have been this uproar if Blatter had been honest from the start and said that he wanted to follow the success of South Africa (and the anointment of Brazil as 2014 hosts) by taking the World Cup to more new places.

A special section today to look at how the English papers have covered the news that Fifa has awarded the 2018 World Cup to Russia.

The Daily Mirror's front page headline is 'SOLD' as they ask how oil-rich Russia and Qatar could persuade Fifa to give them the World Cup. The Sun go with 'FIXED' while the Daily Star shouts 'WHAT A FIX', the Daily Mail claims 'THEY LIED' and the Daily Express simply says 'HUMILIATED'.

The Times is slightly more reserved with 'End of the world for England', The Independent claim 'England fear foul play after World Cup humiliation' and the Guardian says 'Russia ends England's dream of hosting 2018 World Cup', while the Daily Telegraph believes it is a DISASTER handing the tournament to Russia and a DISGRACE that 2022 will be in Qatar.

Absolutely Dave, I agree. Censorship is wrong.

But you know, especially in a position of power, the repercussions of telling things 'how they are' can have such a negative effect they are best left unsaid.

It all sounds a bit selfish to me, that's all.

You're contradicting yourself there.

It was far more important to expose the corruption (and remember that one of the accused was one of the only two to vote for England) than it was to win the bidding.

Well the fact that Qatar will host the 2022 shows that it is a corrupt system for two reasons. Their bid will not have been the strongest in terms of tradition and so as first time bidders, and a tiny footballing nation to have the biggest football show, possibly sporting show, on the planet shows that a nod and a wink helped them.

If they got the World Cup because FIFA want to bring the game to countries that haven't experienced the World Cup, and where the game needs more of a high profile, then why were we encouraged to bid by FIFA. They should have just said that their criteria meant that countries that cannot provide as full a llegacy as 'new' countries then we would have saved time, money, and our humiliation at receiving 1 vote.

Russia may well have had the best bid, but you can't tell me ours was the worst. What possible criteria could they have used to get to that? If we ever want to stage the world Cup then we either need to cosy up to FIFA and play their game (and lets be honest none of us really want us to do that). We are still seen as outsiders within FIFA. We didn't join up until 50 years or so after FIFA was formed and we still look down our noses at them. the other way is for FIFA to open up to more scrutiny and be held accountable for their actions (and in this instance votes).

Neither is likely to happen soon, but I think eventually you'll see us trying to become ingratiated closer into the FIFA family.
