General,

I understand that club officials are meeting with Blues officials in the next week to discuss the problems on Wednesday.

This is my idea to suggest to them...

Would it be possible for the non-violent majority to hold up a massive banner at the next Blues game saying "BLUES AGAINST HOOLIGANISM" or some such thing?

I think a lot of fans see themselves as upholding club pride by behaving like pricks to opposing fans, would be nice for them to see that most of their own fans can't stand them.

If Blues do this I see no reason why Villa can't do similarly (obviously "VILLA AGAINST HOOLIGANISM") in our next home game.

I witnessed with disgust the destruction in the toilets but there was no sign of police or even stewards.  Surely it would be cost-effective for both clubs, knowing it is certain to happen again, to employ some effective security against these yobs who would at least think twice and probably run away like the cowards they are, similar to the Blues fans on the pitch when the police line moved forward.  Incidentally, to those 'fans' singing "what a F***ing Shithole" while peeing up the wall OUTSIDE the toilets, have you seen the facilities we have in the North Stand?

I have been watching The Pacific (from makers of bands of brothers) this week and it is very interesting history and drama about World War II in Pacific Circle and about a group of US Marines. It must be awful with bad weather, no cover, and Japanese fighting method. It also mentioned John Basilone.

Have you seen it.

1.  As has been said many times, I do not do transfers nor do I do transfer windows.  What I do know is that Randy has supported his Manager and I would imagine he would continue to do so.  As we all know, the Winter window is never the most productive...most teams are fighting for position and are not up for selling their good players.  At the same time, GH knows the player scene and availability and will do what he needs to do.

2.  I am not a cricket fan.  Games are too long and too boring.  I am also not a baseball fan for the same reasons.

3.  I watched the Pacific series and thought it was very good.  My father fought in the Pacific during WW II and many of the places mentioned were places he fought at.

4.  I will be at a Board Meeting for the next two days so will be off the site for 48 hours.  I will be back!!

Assigned the task of diverting hostile attention from the movements of our main attack force en route to Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Island, Lieutenant Colonel Krulak landed at Choiseul and daringly directed the attack of his battalion against the Japanese, destroying hundreds of tons of supplies and burning camps and landing barges. Although wounded during the assault on October 30, he repeatedly refused to relinquish his command and with dauntless courage and tenacious devotion to duty, continued to lead his battalion against the numerically superior Japanese forces. His brilliant leadership and indomitable fighting spirit assured the success of this vital mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."

Bravo.
For those who dont know, the Navy Cross is second only to the Medal of Honor.

Apparently none other than the future President John F Kennedy, a PT boat commander at the time, helped withdraw the General's father's unit. The General's father promised him a bottle of Whiskey for the effort and delivered twenty years later when Kennedy was in the White House.
Sounds like something from a movie, yet true.

The navy - Fight on sea with ships / boats / submarine
The Airforce - Fight on air with helicopters  and planes
The army / Marines  - fight on land with weapons.

What the different between Marines and Army ? Why two different department ? Just interested to know. I have no idea.

Newcastle United have just sacked their manager and MON has been installed as favourite to takeover. Given he left us in the lurch I imagine that we still hold his contract until next August.

It would be great to think that if he did want this job that we did not allow him to take it given the shit he dropped us in.

This was just mentioned in the Hughton thread, any chance we could nab Hughton to be our defensive coach, we need clean sheets and he used to be a quality defender?

Salsa, just think of Marines as naval infantry. Although modern warfare requires them to be adaptable to all situations.
All Marine forces around the world answer to their Naval heirarchy to a degree and are part of its infrastructure, its just in the case of the US marines, their sheer size requires more comprehensive organisation to become for all intents and purposes, its own branch of the military.

There are probably only a handful of combined national armed forces around the globe that can compare with just the US Marines on their own. Our own General probably commanded something in the region of 300,000 troops at any given time with their own ships, armoured units (light and heavy) and considerable air assets.
