I've not really been following this one too closely, from the outside it seems that the owners have provided shit loads of money for players but other owners have provided a bit more and they are struggling to compete at the very top end of the table, just like they have been for the last twenty years.

Fair enough, an important distinction which I missed.  Not sure if Gillett and Hicks have actually put in money such as the 18m spent on Johnson or if it is CL revenues ploughed back.  I suspect it's the latter but can't be arsed to check.   What I will say is that, much as I despise the man,  I'm beginning to grudgingly appreciate that maybe Ellis is owed some credit for taking care not to sell Villa to someone who didn't give a flying fig about us, or football in general.  Gillett and Hicks were/are  clearly just a pair of speculators who thought they were on to a sure thing.

It's not G+H's fault that Torres is out of form, Gerrard isn't as good as he once was, Carragher is only good enough for their reserves and the rest are the epitome of average. 

If Liverpool were in the CL and currently in the top 4 there wouldn't be as much as a peep against the current owners.

The reasons why Gillett and Hicks are hated are probably:

• The team is shit.
• The club spend all their money on servicing debt.
• They have turned the club into a laughing stock.
• They have made huge promises (including building a new stadium) which they haven't been able to keep.

Its time they faced facts, there not famous anymore, they ent what they were and wont be for a while! G & H have done wrong by putting the club in debt, its wrong that there in this situation and they shoulda been dealt with (points deduction) when they went in such large debt! But theyv given the club so much money and they deserve some credit for that. At the end of the day there only looking for a scapecoat cus there well, shit really. Not as good as they were and they realise there reputation isnt going to last them long
