And we had AV floodlights, and sometimes all the bulbs worked.

I think Mr Woodhall knows a lot more than most, to be honest. IMO.

He certainly knows what people want to hear.

It is just a pity his Villa history suffers from selective memory syndrome.

That's rich coming from someone who uses having floodlights first as a reason why Spurs are bigger than us.

That's rich coming from someone who pretends that being slow to introduce such an important innovation, is not a sign of a complacent backward-looking club.

Not in the slightest. Anyone who has an iota of knowledge as regards the history of Aston Villa FC would agree that the club's board during that period were out of date. Anyone who would use this fact as evidence that we are now envious of them or indeed that it is of any relevance whatsoever almost sixty years later is, to put it mildly, out with the fairies.

No, no, Dave.

You scanned my litany of Villa failure and mismanagement and you looked for an opportunity to deny it with a quibble.

You ignored the general argument that Villa were being mismanaged and were in decline while Spurs were on the rise and played to the gallery of those who are desperate to deny the same.

You have clung to that quibble relentlessly for the same reason and now insist that I said something you know I did not.

You insulted me.

You made no attempt to correct any historical fact I had offered to support my argument.

Villa did all of those things and the fact that three times; in the 1960s, the 1980s and the 2000s, the fans campaigned against the Villa board suggests that the fans were far from happy with the way the club was managed.

In fact it is probable that you yourself appeared in public and offered quotes to the media to substantiate the claim that Villa have been badly managed.

So it seems rather disingenuous of you to attempt to deny it now.

There might be mitigating circumstances in terms of the economic disadvantages of being a Midlands club rather than a London club but relying on personal insult and pathetic quibbles does not stand up as a worthy argument.

If from your lofty tower of Villa omniscience you just don't think H&V members are worth the exertion required to contrive a cogent rebuttal, just say so.

That's more than a little puerile.

You're not very good at having people disagree with you, are you?

Is there any need for a cogent rebuttal?

Remember the Good Old Days on telly when Leonard Sachs, the MC, used to come out with big words to describe the next act and the audience used to all go "wooo" at his posh descriptions.

That's what I do when I read Villdroid's posts.

Love em

So Dave telling me I'm talking shite and off with the fairies is mature considered comment but accusing him of not taking the argument seriously, is childish?

Sounds like a double-standard to me.

Are you Dave's best friend?

I'd come up with a response if I had the faintest idea what you were on about.

No, I am not Dave's best friend. I do, however, think it's a bit much to be having a pop at someone for not thinking the rest of us are worthy of debate when we raise our opinions, consdering that for 20 plus years he's spent most of his working life publishing a magazine which was born purely to enable us plebs to do precisely that.

I have noticed, however, two things about your posts. One is the absolute inability to debate anything without losing your rag pretty quickly, and the other is the extent you go to to patronise people whilst doing your best to appear clever yourself, so it was more than a little bit amusing to hear you talk about "lofty towers".

99.9% of people on here argue the toss with each other day after day after day and never feel the need to spout anything like the kind of ego-driven nonsense you do.

It's as if you've gone out of your way to get as noticed as you can, as quickly as you can.

I know that until last year at least we'd had more top six finishes than they had.

In the last 20 years (Premier League era) we've finished above Spurs 12 times. Not bad considering they are so much better run than we are.

And all of their top 6 (5) finishes in that time have come in the last 6 years.

They banned smoking before us as well, but probably only because that stand is still a rickety, wooden piece of shit.

That would be the Archibald Leitch-designed rickety, wooden piece of shit?

The one behind the goal? He must have done it as a foreigner.
