You don't half talk some shite. Winning the European Cup is no better than the FA Cup? Sure. They're better than us now. Five years ago they weren't. In five years time they won't be again.

Hard to see that being the case.  Lerner has inflicted lasting damage on the club.

Not really, the only constant in football is that things always change. 5 years ago no one would have thought Spurs would be CL contenders while we're fighting the drop. At the same time the Sky 4 would never be budged and were going to be the top 4 for ever. Last year Swansea were going to finish bottom and challenge Derby for lowest points. Things change or don't go as we (or pundits) expect.

If we stay up and the players continue to improve and say Spurs sell Bale then it's not exactly going into Twilight Zone territory to imagine the gap between could be very small.

Spurs are geared to, and their better players expect, Champions League football.  If they don't get that then who knows how it will effect the club.  And lets not forget this current success started with Martin Jol, who recruiting a lot of young players with the hope a percentage of them would make the grade.  Not disimilar to us right now.

Spurs last figures indicate a turnover of £165m and Villa's turnover was reported at £92m.

Catching up and then surpassing Spurs in five years looks unlikely to say the least, even without relegation.

And yet Dave Woodhall guarantees it.

What does he know that we don't?

I think Mr Woodhall knows a lot more than most, to be honest. IMO.

Won't those latest figures include Misnomer League football money? They got to the 2nd round didn't they?

It didn't help that while MON was manager we were spending so much more on wages than Spurs were.

They’ve got a good side, but you cannot be taken seriously if you’re not the biggest club in your city. Spurs aren’t even the second biggest.

Ads,

I have to disagree with you there. Man City, Everton, Inter, Spurs, Rangers, Athletico Madrid  are all big clubs without being the top dogs in their home city.

Having lived in London for about 15 years on and off since the mid 80s I would also say that Spurs are bigger than Chelsea - certainly historically ( not sure how long that will last though). I think that Arsenal are the biggest club in London but would place Spurs second. Until Abramovic I would have put Chelsea and W Ham on an equal footing, but alas those days are gone.

Deciding the relative merits of Spurs and Chelsea is like deciding whether you prefer athlete's foot or eczema

I think Mr Woodhall knows a lot more than most, to be honest. IMO.

He certainly knows what people want to hear.

It is just a pity his Villa history suffers from selective memory syndrome.

That's rich coming from someone who uses having floodlights first as a reason why Spurs are bigger than us.

That's rich coming from someone who pretends that being slow to introduce such an important innovation, is not a sign of a complacent backward-looking club.

But we're carbon neutral now so that makes us a bigger club than Spurs.

They banned smoking before us as well, but probably only because that stand is still a rickety, wooden piece of shit.

That would be the Archibald Leitch-designed rickety, wooden piece of shit?

Not in the slightest. Anyone who has an iota of knowledge as regards the history of Aston Villa FC would agree that the club's board during that period were out of date. Anyone who would use this fact as evidence that we are now envious of them or indeed that it is of any relevance whatsoever almost sixty years later is, to put it mildly, out with the fairies.
