But we have three excellent centre halves and a magnificent prospect in Clark who is filling in at full back due to our strength in depth. It is pointless.

I think if we were signing Samba he wouldn't have played yesterday. It will be someone from one of those funny foreign leagues.

I'm guessing at... Bundesliga.

I had heard there was something to that Spahic thing a couple of weeks ago but I'd be suprised if we did get another centre half in now.
Unless he was also convincing at left back.

I guess he would have to have about one bad game before the more scummy element of our support started calling him "Spahic the spastic". They've been looking for a scapegoat since "Useless" left.

as much as I've been impressed with Collins and Dunne of late, if we could get Samba or better in place of one of those I'd be all over it. It's not like we're watertight at the back is it?

Blackburn with Samba in defence didn't exactly cover themselves in glory!

He's only one player. I don't think he was individually responsible for any of the goals was he?

My point was  the 3 goals were all scored within the width of the goal and the farthest one was only about 12 yards out, I would have thought that was centre half territory.

Why is there an obsession with players wages and how much we are saving??? I don't give a f*ck....it's what happens on the pitch. I'm sure Randy and the board know what they are doing with the wages. Plus it's all guesswork how much x player is on.
I think we all know exactly what the implications are surrounding players wages.
Infact, no-one should realise more than us Villa fans, given the season we have had and the reasons for it.
Reality HAS to be the watch word.

We were supposed to be challenging to win trophies and trying to qualify for the CL. We then decided that a bottom of the range top six wage bill was too high.

Portsmouth have wages to turn over around the same as us. Which shows either a) we are on a sticky wicket b) these stats are probably bollocks as Portsmouth's wages to turnover was apparently higher.

And these figures do not take account of the signings of Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Downing all of whom will be around £40-50K plus but do take into account Spurs additional signings in the Summer 2009 trading period.

Nobody had heard of that Swiss Rambler website a month ago. Now if it suits the argument it's writ in stone.

The days of a regular 11 are gone, houllier will rotate his players and in the main keep them fresh and happy hopefully, same as he did at Liverpool there will be few unchanged teams , but he is not a tinkerman in the ranieri and benitez mould- more a rotator in the sir alex style , it will be nice to get to march and not have a team of knackered players.

We took more points in March and April (P10 W5 D4 L1) than we have during the last 4 months (P18 W4 D6 L8), it was probably our best two month period of the whole of last season.

I'm a bit nonplussed by Bradley coming in, to be honest. Sure, he's a good player, and a whole level up from the likes of Larsson, but he's a tenacious, driving sort of player - something I'd have thought we're hardly short of.

Disagree Monts.

We have NRC who thinks he's that sort of player, but lacks the quality to really be effective. And Stan, who might have been that type of player once but is now more of a senior pro, always keeping possession and rarely getting caught out of position, but hardly zooming box to box.

Makoun and Bradley will give our midfield legs, probably the closest player we've had to Bradley previously would be Ian Taylor, that is a box-to-box athlete who weighs in with a few goals too.

He's technically competent and brings much needed height and muscle to the middle of the park. Overall happy with this deal if it goes ahead.

because the wage bill was 80-odd % of the turnover. unsustainable. and in the end any shortfall will hit the fans. people don't want to cover it in next year's season ticket nor do they want see a leeds united or pompey-esque fire sale and relegation.

Of course not, but this over analysis of player wages is OTT. I trust Randy etc not to let the extreme scenario you mention happen. Personally I would rather worry about playerson the pitch and who we have in the squad, especialy as we don't have the 'real' knowledge of what they are earning.
