Yes, but it doesn't give the option of him staying. E.g if he is going to go it is very likely that it will be to Liverpool as nobody else has expressed an interest. However, as we all know, he is going nowhere!

Jonathan Woodgate linked with Aston Villa as Curtis Davies completes move

Aston Villa are rumoured to be considering a move for Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate after Curtis Davies completed his move to Birmingham City.

Davies moved to St Andrew's on three-and-a-half year contract worth a reported £3.5million on Friday.

The move leaves Villa without a central defender and Woodgate has been suggested as a possible replacement.

Now nearing full fitness after a serious groin injury, the 31-year-old is ready to stake his claim back in the Premier League.

Although Woodgate knocked back an offer to go off to Wolverhampton on-loan until the end of the season, a move to Villa could appeal to the former Real Madrid man with manager Gerard Houllier known to be an admirer of the centre-half’s stylish play from the back.

Davies’ move to Birmingham leaves Villa with four central defenders - James Collins, Richard Dunne, Carlos Cuellar and Ciaran Clark - and a temporary move for Woodgate could provide defensive security if injuries struck the Midlands club.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp hasn’t stood in the way of players leaving White Hart Lane for more game time, but whether the club will subsidise wages remains to be seen.

A reluctance to pay Robbie Keane’s wages has lead talks with West Ham to stall, and the same could be said of any possible deal with Aston Villa.

Can't see us going for Woodgate now that Dunne and Collins are playing ok again.

There is not a chance GH will sell Ash to Liverpool on deadline day. Well - unless they offer 20 million plus, when it would be silly not to accept and get N'Zogbia for significantly less.

I wouldnt hesitate to go for Woodgate if he was fully fit and injury free again.

Thing is, before he arrived, I didn't hear many people say Kyle Walker is just what we're crying out for. It could be the same with a left back who joins in similar circumstances.

I like Ciaran Clark, but there is an element of 'getting away with it' if we persist in playing him there. With Warnock either on the way out or just plain ostracised I'd feel a lot more confident about squad depth if we signed an actual LB. Either on a short-term or permanent deal.
