So this is THE signing you was on about on Fri night dave?

Would'nt be disappointed tbh, would offer Ireland and Downing in a straight swap.

Sunderland are reasonably well off, they've a good chance of top 6 and a (very) outside chance of 4th.
They're doing better than they have in years, why would they want to fuck it all up by selling their best player?

Also, we were told that the wage bill was a problem.
As far as I can see, we've got rid of Sidwell (probably £40k pw) and replaced him with Makoun (apparently £40k pw).

Has money been found down the back of a sofa?

Last week all I knew was a big name bid was in the offing. Today I found out the Bent thing. They're probably the same, but I don't know for sure.

I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if Sunderland sold Bent to us. Chuffed, but flabbergasted.

Sulley Muntari has handed in a transfer request at Inter, he would be a great addition alongside Makoun.

We still haven't reinvested the Milner wages but I take the point.  Unless randy has decided to give Houllier until the end of the summer to shift some deadweights.  I've never doubted Randy had money to spend and significant sums i.e £15m+ if required it was just the board and manager taking responsibility for keeping the wages under control.  (And that isn't a dig at O'Neill before anyone accuses).

He would apart from the fact we'd lose both our CM playersat the same time for the African Nations. That wouldn't be good. But he is a very good player.

sorry If already posted , Ash Young for £20 million

Chelsea look set to join Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign Aston Villa’s Ashley Young.
The 25-year-old has been the subject of interest from several Premier League clubs after he called off talks over a new contract at Villa Park in the autumn. Spurs were believed to be leading the chase for his signature but they are currently concentrating their efforts on signing Newcastle’s Andy Carroll while Liverpool are likely to wait until the summer before they make any sizeable outlay in the transfer market.
The Blues will move for Young after Florent Malouda’s alarming dip in form and with only Gael Kakuta remaining as an orthodox winger at the club there is a need for another wide man at Stamford Bridge. While a centre back is manager Carlo Ancelotti’s priority this month, he is keen to steal a march on his rivals and sign the talented England international.
Young is rated at around £20m. (Sportingo)

He says he will only consider a move to a London based club. That's why he refused Sunderland.

Or if we give Ireland and Downing for Bent we save about 50k a week in wages.

Controversial but sadly true - why would Bent leave Sunderland for Villa?

As it stands, Ireland for Bent would make superb business for us.
