At the end of the day, the club have backed him, and i would say that he willbe here at least until the end of the season as they appear to be giving him money to spend. £6m spent already and it would seem several other deals in the pipeline, we have to put replaceing him out of mind and just get behind the team. He certain doesn't seem to fanny about like MON did when it comes to transfers and at least looks to be looking further than the end of his nose. If he can get a couple more solid additions in, i would be astonished if we go down, and think we will improve significantly over the next few months. The whole place should get a lift from some significant activity both ways.

That's the important thing. I am by no means whatsoever a Houllier fan, and could understand if the club had sacked him after the Sunderland game. But I can also see that the absolute worst thing to have done would have been to keep him in the job and then not give him the financial backing.

and yet people still think the club will sack him if we lose against small heath after allowing him to spend 5m on Makoun!! if he was going it would have been in december.

According to a couple of Sundays Adam has told Blackpool he wants to move. Not sure what Gollum can do if we offer enough for their chaiman to accept it and he wants to talk.

I think ''Ollie'' has been resigned to Adam leaving for a while and is taking his bad mood over it out on us.

Has Adam not got an agent who can speak for him ? hollaway speaks like he owns him. If he signed for us on 25k from now until the summer he would be 360k better off. Think he needs to sort his agent out ........

So far Hotlips has done a loan deal for a player who was MOTM by miles at Sheffield and bought in a Cameroonian international who has been impressive in the Champions League, seems a decent start to his team rebuilding to me.

Some of you just want him to fail don't you? Even though failure means relegation you want him to fail.
Its kind of annoying isn't it. I'll admit I was calling for his head a few weeks back but its clear he is going nowhere. And as you say the signings he has bought in so far have been very good. Sure we haven't seen anything of Makoun in a Villa shirt yet and we've only seen 1 game that Walker has played for us. I didn't think Houllier would ever win me back over and whilst he still has someway to go yet. There just seems to be a feeling in me that I never got from O'neill regarding transfers and tactics. I don't know the right way to describe it but I get a feeling we could be onto something good once Houllier has had 2 or 3 transfer windows. We are being linked with a much better class of player. No way would O'neill of bought Makoun. In fact I'd question whether he knew who Makoun was!!

Thanks Hulk; just about sums up where I am coming from. We have no alternative but to give him a chance now and I sincerely hope he gets it right. Even though, to date I would have fired his arse if only for making a large group of our players lose any passion or fight.

Yes, I agree too. I do think though the large majority of players from last season would have done exactly the same whoever was in charge. Its not like they showed any spirit or fight when KM was in charge and this is someone who they apparently was well respected.
Until the squad is broken up a bit and new faces are coming in its going to be tough for the boss and the fans. Patience is required.

Good posts above and sums up very nicely the feeling I have, which is there in my mind but difficult to express...

One thing you can guarantee, had O'Neill been in charge, this transfer window would have consisted of us being in for Kevin Nolan for £6m on the final day of the transfer window...

I for one am quite happy so far, makoun in the bank and i'm confident he'll get more in.

Like PW said im not Houllier's biggest fan i'm feeling indifferent at the moment but a nice victory today could go a long way towards making me feel happy, the fact that he's been backed show's the chairman has confidence in what he's trying to achieve!

It's strange how some peoples perceptions are based on one game. lose today and the doom and gloomers will be out in force with relegation a certainty, win and they will grudgingly give him til the end of January.

Straight swap for Reina will do the job nicely.

Otherwise, no thank you.

Why do we keep reading things about Downing going?  Is there an agent at work here?  It also strikes me as possibly relevant that the clubs being linked are up north (sunderland, Liverpool).  Is our Stuart home sick?

How many years left on his contract?  2 by any chance?
