Wayne Bridge had a good game for England. Against Turkey. About six years ago. Since then he's been a walking payslip with a Lego haircut

Because Bannan should be playing for us. Probably our most technically gifted player without exaggeration. Give him a more advanced role and let him play some of the passes no-one else in the ground can see.

Reading that again........ With respect, he isn't.  He's promising but some way off the real deal yet.

Fair enough, but I genuinely believe he is. His touch and awareness are better than anyone at the club that I can think of. His range of passing is fantastic. I don't think we've seen the best of him at Villa Park yet, because for some reason when he's played it's been almost in a quarterback role. Perhaps this is deliberate because our wingers are very attacking players. But from watching him in the reserves, and seeing the odd pass he's made when he has got forward in the first team, I think given a bit more licence he can and hopefully will be an an absolutely fantastic player for us.

Having just seen the highlights of the West Hammered game Bridge made 4 fcuk ups for the 3 Arsenal goals. Thats £90,000 well saved.

He was Houlliers choice though, he thought he was better then anything we had.
For me it's more worrying our manager wanted him never mind missing out on him.

Awesome.

We're now crucifying the manager for shit players he didn't sign.
I don't think it's that unreasonable.

The fact that he wanted to spend £90,000 per week of the club's money on Wayne Bridge worries me far more about his capabilities than any amount of waving at Liverpool fans.

Delph and Bannan (and soon, Gary Gardner) have the best range of passing at the club in my opinion.

Although we don't know he wanted to spend 90k a week on him.

Fair point, I'll rephrase:

As far as I'm aware, we were interested to hear what a deal for Bridge would look like and then were all of a sudden very uninterested.
I'm not sure it got past a polite enquiry.

And yes, he's a bit dodgy but there's a good player in there somewhere, or used to be, and you keep your options open I suppose.
I dont think for a second he was anything more than a contingency plan if a favourable deal was there.

Klose would be awesome, but i can't see it. Charlie Adam, i'm not that arsed about but i suppose if Coker and Petrov are not going to be around much longer then i can see the need. I would be happy with 1 good defender and 1 good centre forward on permanent deals. Anything else would be a bonus really.

So far Hotlips has done a loan deal for a player who was MOTM by miles at Sheffield and bought in a Cameroonian international who has been impressive in the Champions League, seems a decent start to his team rebuilding to me.

Some of you just want him to fail don't you? Even though failure means relegation you want him to fail.

I agree with you in that he's played some of the the best long-range passes I've seen this season.
I've also seen him put several straight to the opposition and into the crowd.

Passing isn't always about being able to hit point X from 50 yards away. Its also about the 12 yard pass that splits a defence as much as the ball-retaining sideways lay-off. Having the know-how when to do what is just as important. And that's before we get onto other aspects of the role i.e tackling, positioning, awareness etc

The term 'technically gifted' seems a bit of a cliche to me to be honest. You're either good enough OVERALL or you ain't.
It's no good having a 12 inch cock if you can't get it up.

I agree with your last line.

There seems to be a few people on here desperate wishing for his failure from the permanently disaffected to those who's noses are still out of joint from the previous incumbent's departure. From posts actively hoping we lose to those bastards from Small Heath to people willing relegation.

said before he left that some people would never accept MON going. just like it panned out at celtic where some were basically against his successor before he arrived so its followed the same pattern here. he just provokes complete devotion in some people

By technically gifted I'm referring to his touch and close control. His ability to turn away from several players at once and emerge with the ball due to said touch and ability to turn on a sixpence, which is no doubt helped by his low centre of gravity. If you're talking about 12 yard defence splitting passes, look at the one he played through for Downing in the first half against Man U this season. No-one saw that pass except him. As I said, he definitely has that vision, but he hasn't been playing in a position advanced enough for him to show it much.

Its kind of annoying isn't it. I'll admit I was calling for his head a few weeks back but its clear he is going nowhere. And as you say the signings he has bought in so far have been very good. Sure we haven't seen anything of Makoun in a Villa shirt yet and we've only seen 1 game that Walker has played for us. I didn't think Houllier would ever win me back over and whilst he still has someway to go yet. There just seems to be a feeling in me that I never got from O'neill regarding transfers and tactics. I don't know the right way to describe it but I get a feeling we could be onto something good once Houllier has had 2 or 3 transfer windows. We are being linked with a much better class of player. No way would O'neill of bought Makoun. In fact I'd question whether he knew who Makoun was!!
