Please can the dance off be saved for a none school night? The Spurs wages debate in it's natural habitat of tight lycra and leg warmers, is simply one not to be missed, not just for the mere fact of needing to get up the next morning anyway.

Please use correct apostrophes - 'its natural habitat ' not 'it's'.

If Villa signed Benzema would that shut some people up about Houllier for a while? No chance though.

If we go for a forward I said a few pages back it would be someone like Cisse as he knows him and how he plays etc.

It isn't about Villa and Spurs wage costs, It's about whether you should sell your best players each season and the reasons why a club turns a top 6 team into relegation candidates.

I'm fed up hearing about Randy spending £200m, he hasn't. He has invested in and placed debt upon Villa on the basis of a strategy designed to compete with another bunch of clubs who have have done the same, only on a bigger scale.

If you don't understand the numbers, you end up nodding sagely when the General posts that our wages are a problem that is unique to Villa.

Sorry is someone nodding sagely. Are you trying to point out that people who have an opinion that the wages are actually stupidly high for our turnover in comparison t a side who made the champions league on a wage bill of 10 million less, and have amassed a significantly better squad, and who for 3-4 seasons sold their best player each season to balance up the books. I simply don't agree with the theory that Randy should just keep dolling over money. It is not a recipe for a healthy club in the future.

The General said "our wages are a problem that is unique to Villa"?

I just think you make it up as you go along.

Sign a striker? We'd have to spend some money, then.

We should be able to.

We've spent two of the last three season in the top two of that. Our chance was wasted, it's time to put the brakes on. Unless you'd rather gamble with the club's solvency?

Would relegation have an impact on solvency ?

I think Makoun, provided it goes through, adding a bit of steel in the middle is all we need to comfortably stay up.  Spunking millions, and more long and expensive contracts, on the kind of players who'd be interested in January, nevermind whilst we're 18th, isn't the way forward.

I'd disagree with you on each of those points but I think they've had enough of it on this thread.

Did he? I thought I was just paraphrasing a range of posts/comments he made.

A little chuckle raised by this, from F365:

"The Biter Bit
Gales of laughter all round at F365 Towers when we noted Harry Redknapp's response to Roberto Mancini discussing Gareth Bale.

When asked about reported interest from Juventus in Bale, Mancini said: "What is certain is that if Tottenham decides to put him on the market, Bale would be the strongest target in the summer."

Fairly innocuous stuff, and note that at no stage did Mancini suggest he was interested in Bale - something he confirmed in a press conference this morning. But here's what 'Arry had to say:

"Well I don't know why Roberto would talk about Gareth really."

We're sure you'll understand why we laughed, given 'Arry's standard tactic of tappin...errr, sorry, expressing his admiration for other clubs' players, the latest example of which came on Tuesday when he hung out of his car window to tell Sky Sports News:

"I think Phil Neville's a fantastic professional, a real leader, great player...But David [Moyes] doesn't want to lose him so it'd be a difficult one."

Well we don't know why 'Arry would talk about Phil really."
