For 2009 ours was 70.5 and theirs 60.4 million. Yes they will have gone up about 10 million though revenue which was already 35 million more than us will have done too. Thankfully I think ours must be on the way down with the relief of 2 million a season from Sidwell and Milner, 1.5 million of Shorey, ditto Marlon, Davies out on loan and probably off, Warnock looking to be edging towards the door etc, but it has to come down a good 10-12 million for us to be sustainable at all. Carew, Warnock, Friedel, Luke Young, possibly Dunne, Reo Coker, Petrov, Ashley Young could all leave between now and the start of next season. Yes they will need replacements squad wise, but it the long term strategy is to operate more like Spurs, bringing through younger talent on lower wages with much higher sell on value, it is the sensible way to go. They are where they are in no small part to signing Defoe, Carrick, Keane, Berbatov etc young/ before they were established and selling them when they were in great form for huge fees. I would put money on them selling Bale for 30 million or so this summer. It sustains them and their model of delivery. Spurs will find a replacement if their player scouting is still up to scratch.

I would bet they could triple their money on Van Der Vaart, and make 15 times what they spent on Lennon.

Arsenal were the original leaders of it with Anelka, Petit and Overmars.

I'm thinking some kind of deal with, say, the Bahrain Potato Marketing Board

Abu Dhabi Tatties.

Don't encourage him, Ozz.

This kind of shit will set him off for weeks with his interminable image rights and ammortisation nonsense.

Apologies. It is the one area that Lerner has had to learn through his mistakes though, the wages and transfer side.

Shouldn't mentioning Spurs wagebill be a ban able offence now?

It ends only in one way: A tedious argument that no one wins or cedes defeat in.

I think the debate should be settled, once and for all, with a dance-off

Ours wasn't 70 million according to Swiss Rambler, it was £61m. We also managed to finish 11 points ahead of Spurs that particular season.

One other reason's for Spurs relatively low wage bill of £67m for the past season is that they have scrapped their reserve team/coaches and now rely on other clubs to coach their youngsters while out on loan deals.

I might regret this, but is this latest factfest  covering a different financial period than the one discussed previously? Is it a guestimate based partly on the last one with a bit of working out/ creative licence thrown in?

Are we still maintaining that the audited accounts from Tottenham are bogus, or hiding summat?

I love conspiracy theories as much as the next guy, but I reckon this one has run it's course.

Please can the dance off be saved for a none school night? The Spurs wages debate in it's natural habitat of tight lycra and leg warmers, is simply one not to be missed, not just for the mere fact of needing to get up the next morning anyway.
