Just reading GH comments at the end of the Sprotinglife post:

"Getting a striker itself is not a problem it is mainly the type of striker that you want.

"It depends on what's going to happen. I think John (Carew) will stay for the moment.

"We're always looking for good players, but we're aware that without Emile (Heskey) when he's not there, and John, we're struggling.

"But Gabby Agbonlahor can play and there's Nathan Delfouneso so with Emile and John we've got four."

Fine in principle until you realise they have scored 9 goals in all competitions between them this season!!

Omar Cummings has an issue in that he hasn't played the requisite number of games for Jamaica in the last 2 years - may not get a permit.

One thing i've learned from what I could stand of the clip above is that American commentators sound even more moronic than some of our lot.

What is this for people like me who cannot access gambling websites at work ?

Quote
Gerard Houllier is hopeful of pushing through a deal to sign Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun.

The Villa boss is expected to fly out to France to speak to the Ligue 1 giants about completing a deal for a reported £6million.

Cameroon international Makoun, who has fallen out of favour at Les Gones, is expected to leave the club this month after making sporadic starts for the club this season.

The 27-year-old's contract expires in 2012 although Lyon will look to recoup some of the whopping £11million they paid for the athletic, defence-minded midfielder two years ago from Lille.

Houllier, who is well acquainted with Makoun, believes the player will fit in well at Villa Park.

"He could be a good asset for us because he is experienced, he has played Champions League with Lille and Lyon and he is exactly what we need at times," said Houllier.

"He can play as a holding midfielder or as a box-to-box player. He can be both. We are working on it. All you can say is there is dialogue going on at the moment."

With Villa leaving an improved £3.5 million bid on the table for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, Houllier admitted the club were also in the market for a striker.

He said: "If you say: 'Are you looking for a striker?' I would say if the opportunity is there, yes, but you don't find them easily.

Sorry all - will expand the link next time

Peterborough's my local club, so I know all about Barry Fry, and the way he conducts himself. As for Joe Lewis, for such a perceived outstanding prospect he was picked up pretty easily by P'boro from Norwich, and he's been at Posh for a reasonable amount of time. I've seen him once or twice... both against Villa in pre-season friendlies. My best mate is a reasonable regular at Peterborough though, and doesn't think Lewis is all that... he's a good shot-stopper, great reflexes but for his height (6ft 7ins, I think) apparently he doesn't command his area well enough.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Fry. There's a very well known story locally that after a cup match against Spurs last season (I think), he apparently walked into the Spurs dressing room to offer them Lewis, along the lines of 'you can have him for xxxx'.

Yeah some of the things I've seen Posh fans posting about him wouldn't fill me with confidence. Could well be targeted as a 2nd choice keeper though? Hopefully not first choice!

Even more moronic than Clive Tyldesley?

That's quite an open response there from GH. He's told us more about transfers there than MON did in four years!

Not quite, or Peter Drury.

And that's it. I don't think he's good enough to be No.1 immediately, perhaps not even next season, and we don't need a Friedel back-up, we need a Friedel replacement.

Worth picking up for a low fee - and if Fry is speaking the truth by saying we've offered less than they paid for him, which was £400k, then fair enough, for less than £1m it's no real gamble. But if Fry's after an auction (he will be), forget it. Lewis has handed in a transfer request, they're a League 1 club. And all this 'he's been away with England' has a lot of hot air. He's played for the under-21s three times.

We're now linked with Rodellaga - he's scored a massive 18 goals in 72 appearances.....which to be fair is the same 1 in 4 ratio of Gabby (although to be fair to Gabby his ratio has improved season on season until this season..)

Might as well offer Coventry £1m for Westwood whose out of contract at the end of the season and an international keeper for the republic of Ireland.

Fry talks a good game but what has he achieved as a manager in 25 years? Dream on bazza!

Wonder if Gerard has done the business and is now back at Charles de Gaulle picking up some duty free - some foie gras and a bottle of Petrus for tonights tea with Mrs H
