The Sky cameras were at the ground for the Ferguson press conference and he isn't going to miss an opportunity like that to get his mug on TV is he?

They're probably waiting for the former Man U loanees at Preston to wash up down there.

As the old football saying goes: "Alienate a striker, buy a striker."
Because he was on fire before GH arrived, wasn't he?

Has cummings signed or is still on trial?

Still on trial so doesn't bode well

File under Stas / Balaban / undsworth i suspect
Three particularly inappropriate comparisons: career-ending injury / £6m gamble / cuckolded husband whose wife couldn't bear the thought of living in the Midlands.
If you're going to comment on a virtually risk-free trial at least keep it in perspective please.

He often has barren spells after a lay-off, just like every other striker in the world. He started last season slowly but still ended up on 17 goals. He's also one of the top 6 or 7 most prolific goalscorers in the PL during the previous 3 1/2 seasons.

I don't know what the cause of the relationship breakdown is but we could do with having Carew available.

This Omar Cummings looks a pretty decent signing providing we go along with it. He seems to have the forward striking brain were lacking atm. I think he'll link up well with Ashley Young and probably resulting in Ash signing a new contract. Im quietly confident he'll sign, he said '' Im surprised but very excited''.. Which leads me to believe he wants to play, unlike a few heads in the squad right now. Im looking forward to watching him play alongside Gabby n Young. 1st decent move from Houllier. UP n Up we GO, GOALS GOALS GOALS

Omar Cummings will need a work permit so the club could well be working on his signing now pending advice/news on work permit.

What is this for people like me who cannot access gambling websites at work ?

Gerard Houllier is hopeful of pushing through a deal to sign Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun.

The Villa boss is expected to fly out to France to speak to the Ligue 1 giants about completing a deal for a reported £6million.

Cameroon international Makoun, who has fallen out of favour at Les Gones, is expected to leave the club this month after making sporadic starts for the club this season.

The Villa boss is expected to fly out to France to speak to the Ligue 1 giants about completing a deal for a reported £6million.

Cameroon international Makoun, who has fallen out of favour at Les Gones, is expected to leave the club this month after making sporadic starts for the club this season.

The 27-year-old's contract expires in 2012 although Lyon will look to recoup some of the whopping £11million they paid for the athletic, defence-minded midfielder two years ago from Lille.

Houllier, who is well acquainted with Makoun, believes the player will fit in well at Villa Park.

"He could be a good asset for us because he is experienced, he has played Champions League with Lille and Lyon and he is exactly what we need at times," said Houllier.

"He can play as a holding midfielder or as a box-to-box player. He can be both. We are working on it. All you can say is there is dialogue going on at the moment."

With Villa leaving an improved £3.5 million bid on the table for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, Houllier admitted the club were also in the market for a striker.

He said: "If you say: 'Are you looking for a striker?' I would say if the opportunity is there, yes, but you don't find them easily.

"Getting a striker itself is not a problem it is mainly the type of striker that you want.

"It depends on what's going to happen. I think John (Carew) will stay for the moment.

"We're always looking for good players, but we're aware that without Emile (Heskey) when he's not there, and John, we're struggling.

"But Gabby Agbonlahor can play and there's Nathan Delfouneso so with Emile and John we've got four."
