Charlie Adam = little fish/big pond syndrome.

He'd be another Sidwell.

Agree wholeheartedly. I also don't think we need him with Bannan and Delph. Same goes for Barton though I think he's a better player.

Rumours on Sky that Lyon want £8million for Makoun and we've offered £4million.

Or, he's a much better squad option than Sidwell. He wouldn't be instead of Makoun. Completely different types of players.
My take on it as well.

Probably instead. I think he's a good player. Good pass, clever, and hopefully can elbow Ash off set piece duties. Is he good enough for where we were aspiring to last season? No. Can he help us pull out this season, and estbalish mid-table next year? Yes. Says it all as to where we aspire to be these days.

That's my concern.

If we had the same financial clout as in previous years then we can and should set our sights above Charlie Adam, no disrespect to him.  Even now we should be looking for players to establish us back in the top 6 and then push on for CL qualification.

Walker is a longterm prospect so doesn't contradict that.  And niether would Makoun or Wayne Bridge.

Signing Charlie Adam for £2.5m does, IMO

Both Delph and Bannan are much better squad options than Sidwell, and Adam, so it makes no sense to me.

adams played with bannan last season , might complement each other - we need makoun more than adams though.. i like the way we are trying to do many deals , we need 5 or 6 and looks like we are going for them.

Bannan hardly ever played for Blackburn last season.

He only really played when Adam wasn't.

I hate to be blunt but none of these signings are exactly going to help our wage bill or with the exception of maybe Makoun improve our side much.

You're quite correct.

He had a few games for Blackpool though but got dropped after breaking a curfew.

Watching us of late, it is really clear that we would do with someone who can either pick out a final pass after some of our (frequently neat) passing in midfield, or can move the ball forward from midfield into a more dangerous position (like Walker did on two occasions on Saturday).

Given that, Adam is an obvious one to look to, and given the low price and doubtless low-end wages, makes financial sense, too.

I'd just be amazed if Blackpool sold him. Not only would it inevitably strengthen another relegation struggler, it would also go a long way to dooming their own struggle.

Really hope this is true, Adam is a replacement for the shite Petrov. He is a really food player who would flourish at Villa in my opinion.

When Petrov was out we missed him badly, not because he was so good but because everyone else was either injured or not upto it,
Charlie Adam would be a great improvement on him, give Ash the captaincy if he signs, get Makoun in Europe here we come!

Lets be fair - we've only actually SIGNED one player thus far, who had a good debut and is young enough to develop well for us.

I'm not enthralled by the idea of Adam either, but I think the likes of Bridge, Makoun and Samba, even though I think he's not needed, are of the quality we can realistically attract right now and still be capable of playing for us if/when we get back to being a top 6 side.

OK--not sure what the deal is with posting from other sites (sorry if im treading on anyones toes mods) but just read this on vital villa. hopefully may cheer some of you up! :)

I think most who read this site (and some have been with us in the different places, rivals, independent and now this, the Vital Network for over 10 years) know I never pace anything off as fact unless I know it for fact.

Ok, the story today in The Daily Mail is 100% totally and utterly wrong.

Villa are NOT in 'again` for Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton. They have never been in for him and are certainly not looking to be in for him now.

You can take that to the bank.

A source rang me up laughing this morning, laughing because he knows I burst a gasket every time we are linked with this particular 'character` and how I have talked over the years we`ve been linked with how stretched my loyalties would be to Villa if we got a thug like this. My feeling a few years ago when linked under Martin O`Neill (which also seemed a stretch to be fair as Barton had had a go at MON on the touchline) was that if we had a character like that, I`d no longer be attending!

Sandman , why are you so worried about the wage bill, it's results that matter and Adam has looked a decent premiership player, at the price being touted he seems like a decent enough signing and I wouldn't expect reo coker or petrov to be here next season- makoun would be the key signing but why not get adam as well - maybe we will be selling more than we think.

Brigde, walker, samba, Adam, makoun , cummings and another striker and keeper would give us new impetus.

Carew, ireland, sidwell, warcock , davies and reo - coker out and it would be be good pruning!

Bannan played 20 games last season for Blackpool so he will be well aware of Adam and his playing style.

Charlie Adam is on 10k a week, we know this as Holloway has said no player will get more at Blackpool.

So we could treble his wages and he would still be cheaper than Sidwell!
