I can imagine nothing but trouble with Bentley around.
We've got a decent number of midfield players, we need a can opener in the midfield to make sure Young and Downing see more of the ball.

We've got one potentially in Ireland.  Mad maybe, but why is he out of the sqaud when Pires is in it?  Wouldn't we better trying to make it work with Ireland than continuing to give a spot to Pires, who hobbles round like Norman Wisdom needing a shit.

And that's Norman Wisdom nowadays.

He was dropped from the squad for poor performance, which is fair & perfectly fine by me.

If Warnock doesn't like it & has kicked up a fuss, then fuck him off.

It's simple, he's not been good enough.

But again, a worrying example of Houllier's man management, for me. No problem leaving him out of the starting X1; but not even on the bench? Clark gets a knock, Warnock comes on. What happens if he's not on the bench? Lichaj goes there? I think Houllier's cutting his nose off to spite his face, and it's hurting us. The summer is the time to move players on, not during the season when we're struggling.

Like with Ireland - clearly fallen out with him. 15 mins to go v Spurs, trailing 2-1... you're not telling me Pires is a better bet off the bench to conjure something up than Ireland? Same with Carew. He's past his best and should go in the summer but we're chronically short of goals and the guy should at least be coming off the bench. We haven't enough quality as it is without completely ignoring some of the quality we do have.

Well didn't GH say not long ago that Ireland had a future with Villa along with Dunne.Good opportunity for some valuable game time.Would be a great confidence builder if he got a goal or 2.He'd be putting himself in the shop window if nothing else but personally I don't want him to go yet especially with the prospect of a new manager coming in

I would swap Ireland for Bentley if thats what both players wanted. At least then we would have a potentially very good player who wants to be here, rather than one that doesn't.

Redknapp dropped Bentley because he didn't play for the team and didn't put the effort in. He's made a few brief comebacks, but he's always dropped back because of the same thing. That really fits with the Houllier ethos doesn't it? Why don't we play him and Ireland together? They could have we a game of snap in the centre circle while the rest of the team get on with it!

There's no new manager coming in - houllier is here and needs to get new signings in - like it or not he is not going anywhere.

Hope sidwell Carew and Ireland have kicked their last ball for villa , let's get people in who want to play their heart out for the shirt and not take the piss!

I saw Redknapp talking with Kamara about him some time back, he said that Bentley was one of the best trainers there and was very professional, it was just that he preferred Lennon out wide and two battlers in the middle. I take the point that he's hardly likely to slag him off if he's trying to sell him though.

Doubt harry would want Ireland but he has been keen on davies in the past , might be worth trying to do a deal davies for bentley- bentley looked better in blackburns centre midfield and has good passing range and a bit of guile plus a decent shot on him.

Its ironic that Harry spunks what 16 million on Bentley , the new Beckham . And now hes getting a35 year old  past his best Beckham on loan and trying to get rid of Bentley...

Agreed

Whether they like / respect / whatever /  GH or not,  when do the players start accepting some responsibility for performances and results?

Heskey got himself sent off through pure stupidity (although he played ok up to then, apart from his finishing), missed a sitter and another decent chance & probably cost us the game....
