Micah Richards would be awesome and, dare I say it, gettable.  Having said that, I'm weary of any player we sign from Citeh.

Micah Richards awesome? Dear me, hyperbole reaches new heights with that one Dave...

i would have thought a striker was a priority. Read a few reports saying we had 15m to spend which is what i would hope would be available if a few of the deadwood could be jettisoned, but i'm starting to get worried there's nowt there. Hopefully i'll be pleasantly surprised.
As I said on another thread, I wouldn't be surprised if it were available but the board aren't too keen on breaking out transfer record for Houllier's choice of striker when he might not be here in six months.

I would understand it perfectly if we stuck to a few loans in this window rather than threw large amounts of money around.

Edit - as long as none of those loans are Wayne sodding Bridge.

we need a striker. either they back his judgement with money or sack him.  you can't run a football club hedging your bets

Completely agree.

It's s*** or get off the pot.

We need more attacking options, be it a striker, a winger, or an attacking midfielder.

I know a lot of people dont like him and i think it is more of about his perceived personality than footballing ability, but if we could get David Bentley playing like he was at Blackburn, I think it would be a great signing. He's never really got the opportunity under Redknapp at Spurs and a couple of years ago he was Englands new golden boy.

I agree entirely with the shit or get off the pot point.

I disagree re Bentley, though. The last thing we need now is another wide player. What would be the point in that when we have much bigger priorities?

Carew is a carthorse- one of the laziest players I've seem in the last 30 yrs at villa and his attitude and lack of effort stinks- let him go to Albion on a free - he will only make them even shitter!

Dont need any wingers, need a midfield player who has the vista and determination. A fabregas type alongside reo/bannan/delph.

I think Bentley played his best football in the middle. Put him there just ahead of Petrov and NRC (for the moment, hopefully we can improve) and I think he could be class for us.

Don't think Bentley is the type of player we need for a relegation scrap

Fabregas, Iniesta and Xavi wouldn't play to their potential in our team as they'd have no-one moving up front to pass to. Tricky passing to statues who've marked themselves. Fabregas and David Villa...then you'd be talking :-)

I can imagine nothing but trouble with Bentley around.
We've got a decent number of midfield players, we need a can opener in the midfield to make sure Young and Downing see more of the ball.

And for fuck's sake, get Gabby off the wing!

It's really hard to get excited by transfer news because even if we bring in good players, they may turn into bad players under Houllier.

Just look at the Collins - Samba proposed deal. Collins was a good player who used to play well, but now he is a good player who is now well below his best.
Samba is playing well but what is to say he will under Houllier?

It's hard to think anything positive will happen whilst the current management are in place.
That's exactly what I think. The manager is too egotistical, the players don't like him and it was the wrong appointment. The mood around the place is a dead give away.

Always liked Bentley and I wouldn't mind a move for him in the summer, given that I think Young will go then and Ireland's off but right now, not what we need. We have three good wide players. We need a bit of steel, composure and class in central midfield. We've lost our two best midfielders in the last two seasons and not replaced them, it's no wonder we look light in there.

BTW, what has happened to Warnock? I know he's not in the side but I haven't heard why... the Christmas fog probably means I've missed something?

Warnock has been dropped because he's been shit for 6 months+.

Fair enough IMO.

When MON takes over at Liverpool I hope he signs him back.

Charlie Adam would be a useful signing from blackpool , we still need 3 or 4 more this month and a striker and creative midfielder are a must.

Wayne bridge if he helps keep us up would be a decent shout but not at th e wages he's on at city- reports linking coyle with Liverpool job so maybe we make a move for elmander at Bolton .

Any more news on makoun and cummings?

Has he even been on the bench though? Hadn't noticed him there v Chelsea, which is odd.

Another senior player GH has fallen out with, perhaps.

He was dropped from the squad for poor performance, which is fair & perfectly fine by me.

If Warnock doesn't like it & has kicked up a fuss, then fuck him off.

It's simple, he's not been good enough.

I would swap Ireland for Bentley if thats what both players wanted. At least then we would have a potentially very good player who wants to be here, rather than one that doesn't.
