We're only allowed two premier league loans and those might be taken up with Walker and Bridge.

Narrows the field even more.

Thank fook for that...    loans I mean

Stephen Ireland

As well as the need to bolster the attacking nature of his side, Roy Hodgson also wants to add a spark to his midfield and believes Aston Villa man, Stephen Ireland, could be the one according to reports.

The ex Manchester City midfielder arrived at Villa park only last summer as part of the James Milner transfer and may be available at a cut price of £4 million. Ireland has failed to hold down a place in the first-team and doesn't seem to be part of new manager Gerard Houllier's plans

That would be the nail in the coffin for Woy, If he lasts that long.......

I'm still fairly optimistic that the Bridge stuff is made up. It can't really be true.

I'd have thought that if we were to loan a striker he would probably come from France.

The Bridge story has got to be a wind up. No way Lerner would fund a virtual "has been" for 90k a week. I would not mind but he is no better that Warnock ..... A top quality striker no problem.

We already have a top class striker in Carew

Faulkner / Lerner need to get him playing for us again

Selling him to Albion would be a disgrace

It's really hard to get excited by transfer news because even if we bring in good players, they may turn into bad players under Houllier.

Just look at the Collins - Samba proposed deal. Collins was a good player who used to play well, but now he is a good player who is now well below his best.
Samba is playing well but what is to say he will under Houllier?

It's hard to think anything positive will happen whilst the current management are in place.

If Charlie Adam is available at around 3 million from Blackpool we should be at the front of the queue. Good player. BLues get him, Bentley and Keane it will improve them no doubt.

I agree that we shouldn't sell him to a relegation rival, but he's been a carthorse for the past 12 months.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has admitted he could be forced to leave the club in the search for regular first-team football.

Better then Samba eh? Worth a point?

Micah Richards would be awesome and, dare I say it, gettable.  Having said that, I'm weary of any player we sign from Citeh.

Bridge is past it and surely destined for West Ham.

Richards would be good though.

These loans may be a shift in policy by the club. The drop down the table may well have forced the board to think about short-term fixes rather than longer term goals.

There is little point in committing millions in fees and contracts if we are not in this league next season.

i would have thought a striker was a priority. Read a few reports saying we had 15m to spend which is what i would hope would be available if a few of the deadwood could be jettisoned, but i'm starting to get worried there's nowt there. Hopefully i'll be pleasantly surprised.
As I said on another thread, I wouldn't be surprised if it were available but the board aren't too keen on breaking out transfer record for Houllier's choice of striker when he might not be here in six months.

I would understand it perfectly if we stuck to a few loans in this window rather than threw large amounts of money around.

Edit - as long as none of those loans are Wayne sodding Bridge.

we need a striker. either they back his judgement with money or sack him.  you can't run a football club hedging your bets

Completely agree.

It's s*** or get off the pot.

We need more attacking options, be it a striker, a winger, or an attacking midfielder.

I know a lot of people dont like him and i think it is more of about his perceived personality than footballing ability, but if we could get David Bentley playing like he was at Blackburn, I think it would be a great signing. He's never really got the opportunity under Redknapp at Spurs and a couple of years ago he was Englands new golden boy.
