Does anyone know how the Blackburn fans view the prospect of losing Samba?
Personally, I don't think we need him and our priorities should be elsewhere.
Cuellar was extremely well respected when he joined us and it was only his lack of playing time under MON which changed some people's view.
Collins and Dunne have been good in the past and it is up to the manager to get them playing well in the future.
Davies was one of the best performers during the earlier part of MON's reign. He dislocated his shoulder in that match v Everton and then played on for too long putting in a string of bad performances. He then lost confidence and his repuatation for being a good defender. Like Collins and Dunne, he just needs to be well managed.
Add to those names, Warnock ( who went to the World Cup ahead of Baines), Luke Young and Clarke and it should be one of our strongest areas.

I'm also one of those not particularly fussed with Samba.
Yes, he's decent and obviously a big physical presence but we have that already and if we're going to get another centre half I'd like something we have little of at the back, Ciaran Clark excepted, a centre half who is comfortable on the ball and who can read the game with ESP.
Or one who can cover full back too.

I'd still be inclined to go for Lescott. Or maybe theres an up and coming Italian lad. Christ, they used to produce a new master centre half every week in the 80s/90s.

Judging by his performance tonight, Dickson Etuhu is one i'd keep an eye on, he's stil only 28 and could be a decent ball winning player for us. Maybe a short term replacement for Petrov or Reo?

Shades of a typical MoN signing to me, and his age combined with him not being very good doesn't make the whole affair particularly attractive.

I agree and are we now to buy players based on one decent performance against a crap team which happened to be on the TV? Still, makes a change from buying them just from Man City's cast offs, relegated teams or Celtic I suppose....

Of our defence I think warnock is the one who needs replacing more than any centre half- a full back who can cover at left or right back would be useful-bit surprised we haven't signed anyone yet as I expected GED to have lined up players to come in having seen our weaknesses.

Blackburn linked on sky with warnock so maybe a swap deal for samba there but I don't see the need for a centre back-also Monaco linked with a player swap involving Ireland going there.

Mbokani isn't PL material for me, just an average player. Think difficult to work with. Scored well in Belgium (Standard) but if you can't make it in France, how should he make it in the PL?

Maybe, but if we can swap him for Ireland, he will be on less wages and will be alot easier to sell in the summer if it doesn't work.

We're about to sign Kyle Walker on loan apparently.

Because he'll be going on loan somewhere, so it may as well be here. If Houllier thinks he'll help us out and we need him. Rumours are that there'll be a chance to buy him too.

I feel uneasy at getting a player on loan from Spurs. If Young is out for a while,it shows that GH doesn't fancy Lichaj.

It's not clear but there may be a possibilty of getting him permanently. In which case, its a good move. If not, well, it isn't.
With Luke Young out at least we have proper full back cover anyway I suppose. He does cover positions across the back 4 but right and left back in particular.

I would only want him if there is a firm option to buy, why should we do those bastards any favours?
