fofana looks a good bet to me. the reservation for me was bringing in such a young foreign player into a team doing crap with divisions in the dressing room. hopefully he can bring in someone with more experience. as others have commented, a good centre half, a nasty bastard midfielder and a striker would be my wish - spine of the team 'n that. maybe a full back too

a full back to replace Warnock would be nice. I think Warnock has squad value, but I'd love Houllier to unearth a new Evra. I don't think we've had a great bombing down the wing type full back since Staunton have we?

We've had so many new signings get injured almost straight away that you have to wonder whether the medicals were on the level. If nothing else, it seems we're getting the job done properly now.

Alan Wright. Once. Against M'boro away. I was going out with Amy Davies. She was a bit of a goth. It was a long time ago. But no, our last really good defensive flying full back beats my memory.

Agreed, but I would have thought this one was down to whether the player could be insured or not (transfer fee, signing on fees, wages etc).

feel a bit sorry for warnock. when he first arrived he seemed to want to get forward a lot and was then told to stay back by MON. Only my opinion but he did look quite attacking to start with.  i don't put him into the non-trying members of the squad to be honest. He's just been crap basically. god knows whats wrong.

Kendrick from the mail reckons it was a back injury.

Disappointed this one is not happening, the fee, and the reputed quality, would negate an injury in the short term for me.

I wonder whether Warnock has a serious underlying weakness in his legs/ankles.  Previous with broken bones early in his career and everytime he goes in hard he looks as though he has a serious injury.  I do not put him down as one of the 'weak' players so it seems strange.

I wouldn't be surprised to see his career end early.

If Fofana only has a "minor" injury wonder if he is going to sign him at the end of the month ???

Houllier said "not likely". Maybe in the Summer. Sounds to me like the lad may need an operation. Maybe something hard to see if it will clear up easily eg Back, Knee etc

He also said "But I've also young players here already and you've got to have a balance in terms of wages and abilities."

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has targeted Blackburn's £8m-rated centre-back Chris Samba as the man to shore up his defence.

Meanwhile, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is planning a £12m offer for Aston Villa's 26-year-old winger Stewart Downing.

Just read GH comments about the Fofana deal, doesnt really mention an injury, more to do with balancing the squad,or he's gonna sign for someone else soon. Wonder if he's been told that he can only bring in one midfielder and has got his eye on someone who can go straight in the team. Shame as he looks like one for the future.

I know you tube clips can be misleading. But Lucina Traore who the Daily Mail say we are in for really looks the part. 6`8 20yrs old, two feet and is good in the air. Maybe this is fantastic editing. (first 10 min clip on you tube)

I should hope so too. We've enough on our plate without having to fulfil disabled quotas on the pitch.

Houllier added: "He's got potential. He's a 19-year-old player, very mature, with a strong personality. He was captain of the France side that won the European Under-19 Championships.

"But I've also young players here already and you've got to have a balance in terms of wages and abilities. It's more likely not to happen."

seems to me the problem was more to do with the kid wanting better terms than our own promising youngsters, and GH not wanting to upset the apple cart.
