But if Houllier can't even attract French players he's worked with who can he attract (other than Pires)?

Does Houllier serve any  purpose, never wanted him as manager but thought he may at least be able to attract some decent players. Jeez what a fucking shambles we've become......

bottom line is if he wants more than the club are prepared to pay, he won't join. Doesn't matter who's in charge. going to be a lot of this until we repair the mistakes of MON's reign and get the wage bill under control

When did "fail a medical" become "can't attract"?

Fofana wouldn't be part of our 25 man squad he is only 19.

Arsene Wenger has said he wants to loan out Carlos Vela, what do people think of him?

You're not slagging, you're just saying we're going down. God help us when you do start to be negative.

That's a very poor reflection on the executives at the club if a football manager is the one responsible for a badly balanced wage bill. Does that mean that the board were allowing MON to just pay players what he thought was right and nobody was monitoring expenditure or forecasts? What very poor management and business.

I think it is great news if true, Martin will have paid him what ever he wants.

Villa are going through transition and one of the things changing is stupid wages to unproven or average players.

Great news that we're not signing a player the manager wanted to sign?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1342963/Gueida-Fofanas-Aston-Villa-says-Gerard-Houllier.html

Looks like Fofana's agent may be trying to take the piss.

Thing is, if he's a sure fire certainty I guess his wage demands would be acceptable in lieu of the fact that he costs so little.

If GH rates him THAT highly based on empirical evidence, then he isn't a punt any more than many other  signing (say) from a lower league club.

Who has said he failed a medical? Houllier didn't mention it.

It's a pity this Fofana guy is'nt coming, he sounds like the type of player we should be going for, it's the type of player you'd see Arsene Wenger bringing in for Arsenal. He must have been asking for a lot for the deal to collapse, but not as much as Ireland is on surely?

Losing out on a potential star over a few bob and getting a 28 year old striker from the MLS with an ok scoring record because there is "no cost, no risk".....pretty clear what kind of parameters Houllier will be working within over this transfer window.

All more than marginally concerning.
