Given has total command of his goal line, and that's about it.

A great keeper for the cameras, less so if you're a centre half in front of him.

The point was these players are not going to push us past where we already were, and if true,we're going to spunk £30m to, at best, stand still.

Bulls*** .... he has been the best and most consistent Keeper in the last decade.
Has he bollocks. There are a good half a dozen keepers above him on that particular list. At least.

He's great at throwing himself around on his goalline but he's barely claimed a cross in his life.

Talking through your hole there, especially re crosses.

Half dozen better over the last 10 years?? Name them

Friedel, Van Der Saar, James, Cech and Reina are five definites.

And I think you could make a pretty good case for Martyn, Jaaskelainen, Lehmann and Schwarzer as well.

There's a reason why a) he is second choice for his club and b) a lot of very decent defenders become suspiciously crap as soon as he starts playing behind them.

I can see why people would think he was great, most games he'll make a couple of astonishing saves and get on Match Of The Day. But mainly because he was in the wrong position to start with or because he didn't cut out the cross that the shot came from.

No thanks on Given. He can Shay where he is. Keepers, although an issue wouldn't be a priority in January for me, we've got more pressing concerns elsewhere.

Absolute garbage...3 of those 5 have played behind some of the best defences in the league in the last 10 years for a start. You seriously blaming Given for the likes of Boumsong, Dabizos, Andy O'Brien????

James? He makes more mistakes in a season than Given has in his career.

Fair enough playing for Newcastle you will see plenty of saves per game, but put up a clip or 2 of goalkeeping howlers he as ever made and show he is all about the showman saves.

2nd choice for City purely because Hart is the younger man, potentially there for over 10 years...still could be wrong decision i.e. see Hart on saturday.

Getting Given would be a massive coup but I dont think GK should be our priority right now.

This is just the sort of player we need.  A destroyer the middle.

He looked like he could be a world beater when he first started out at Liverpool, not sure what's happened to him in recent years.

It's a believable story on 3 counts.

1. He played for Houllier
2. He's a realistic target
3. The rumour hasn't come from one of the red tops

Oh bollocks.

Still think it could be a goer though.

I suspect you've fallen foul of your own press over-hyping Irish players, much in the same way the press over here does with our own "heroes".

And since when does your opinion render anyone else's "bullshit"?

I've seen him play for Juve a couple of times, and I've been very impressed. Exactly what we need in the middle, and he'd be a big upgrade on Reo-Coker, much as I like him.

Whenever I've seen him he's had the touch of a baby elephant, almost identical to NRC so I cant see the point.

He looked a big improvement on the player he was at Liverpool when I've seen him, much more composed.

He always the had potential to be a very good defensive midfielder. When he left Liverpool he was still very raw and I haven't had much opportunity to see him play since.

I would rather try and get somebody like M'Vila but if Sissoko has improved since his Liverpool days he could be a very useful addition. Christ knows we could use him right now.
Why would Juve want to get rid though?
