A central midfielder has to be our priority give injury woes there, plus never having replaced Barry or Milner. A few France-based options have been mooted. Some have good reps but I can't honestly say I've seen enough of them to make a proper judgement.

Centre Midfielder & Striker are a must. I think we're ok at the back with the emergence of Clark.

Apparently several sources including phil Thompson say michael owen will be villa 1st signing under houllier- I would approve of that providing he is fit, he will score goals.
Maybe followed by a top class centre forward in the summer- not sure gerard will be happy about thommo saying Liverpool should buy Ashley young though!

Owens got a hamstring injury at the moment. Yes...shocking isn't it?

Pinocchio advocating to Owen via SSN that he should join us isn't the same as us def being  in for him.

If he joined in Jan and we got anywhere near 10-14 games out of him it might be worthwhile. But if it's just a case of wanting to swap the rehab facilities of Carrington for those at Bodymoor Heath - and being paid for the privilege-  I hope he does the decent thing and retires.

Given houlliers comments about owen at the recent carragher testimonial I'm sure he would be interested in signing him- he literally said as much - owen loves playing with heskey and is a natural finisher, only worry is his fitness.

I'm sure given the closeness of their friendship thommo will have discussed owen with houllier and as he said houllier rates owen very highly still.

Undoubtedly we need a quality midfielder and centre forward too in the near future, as well as left back and maybe a goalkeeper.

Whats the point adding Owen to the wage bill for him to sit in the treatment room?

I (and possibly Mazrim) have said this before but Carroll looks class.  A beast of a man so would suit our current one up top formation.

I doubt we could get him though as he is a through and through newcastle fan.  Maybe his off field error may encourage him to leave the goldfish bowl that is Newcastle.  Here's hoping.

I know we were linked with him in the summer and nothing came of it, apart from a fair amount of discussion on here, but I just watched the first half of Brugge vs Standard Liege and Axel Witsel looks more and more the type of CM we need. He was tireless, working box to box. Very combatitive as well as being good on the ball, a few mazey dribbles into the Brugge box were superb! He and Delph would make a very dynamic pairing, if a little youthful!

The small squad and the 14 months without investment is really coming home to roost with the injuries a the moment. The midfield was never that great, but it’s desperate at the moment and we miss so much from Gabby not being in the side. Not just his goals, but also his pace and how that effects the opposition.

January and a new striker and central midfielder cannot come quickly enough.

Another vote for Carroll.

I was watching Eden Hazard the other day.  He is another Belgian who looks class.  Add Witsel, Defour and Kompany and they have the nucleus of a "golden generation".

I think today showed how much Sidwell and Ireland are not trusted by G dog in a big game, hence Clark being (fairly successfully) turned into a centre mid and Bannan coming on. I think that is the area we will be looking at quick smart in Jan, with creation and destruction in mind.

Aand some kid striker - Lakuku??? who is meant to be the dogs knackers at 17 and being eyed around Europe? Mark Boussafa? SOme good players in Belgium if some reports are to be believed. Or the league in general is worse, so the top players look a lot better.

Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht I assume you mean, is a beast of a player! Dubbed the new Drogba, I have a feeling he may live up to the hype. Has been a first team regular since last season and has a 1 in 2 scoring record, nearly 30 goals already!! Has had big clubs sniffing round, I think Anderlecht were turning down big bucks offers this summer. Don't think we'd have a chance of getting or affording him. We really have to hope that with his contacts and developmental brain, GH is going to find these players to bring into our academy from an early age.
