Benzema on loan would put "bums on seats" so to speak. Young and needs a fresh look somewhere else. Lyon product so Houllier will be aware of him. It's time we stopped being just linked to this kind of player and actually landed one or two; on loan or permanently.

Manchester rivals United and City are to lock horns again in the pursuit of River Plate's young Argentine striker Rogelio Funes Mori. (Daily Mail)

Worth a punt ? get him and Santa Cruz.

True, let's right Crouch off because he hasn't scored in 5 league games.
Nope, let's write him off because he's not very good and demonstrably not what we need.

Incidentally, it's one goal in his last fifteen league games.

It was the one that got them into the Champs League though wasn't it? (winner at Wastelands)
And he's got a few in Europe this year. And been responsible for a lot of Van Der Vaart's goals so far with those headed knock-downs like against us.

I don't think he's the answer to what we need either but he's still a quality player.

Have there actually been any links or is this wishful thinking?

My cheap and (I think) do-able alternative would be Klose on loan for the rest of the season.

He's hardly getting a kick at Bayern Munich and crucially plays (excellently) in the 4-2-3-1 formation with Germany.  Hopefully he could teach Gabby/Fonz a few tricks whilst Houllier identifies a long term signing in the summer.

I'd try and sell carew in order to free up the wages to pay Klose.

We haven't been linked to Benzema, but we were linked to Sneijder last year, and despite us all pulling out our prayer mats, we all knew in our hearts he wasn't coming. With Houllier I wouldn't be so sure that he won't pull one of these types of players out of the hat.

Maybe Benzema would prefer a club that is playing in Europe?

Wouldn't make a difference this season - he's already cup-tied.

Antonio Cassano has had his contract terminated at Sampdoria.  He's trouble with a capital T but also very talented.

Worth a punt?  He could be our Cantona.  Possibly.

Add to the wanted list Matt Jarvis i know he is not a striker but he seem's to be playing really well.

Adam Johnson started on the bench again for City and there are rumours of a possible fall out with Mancini. If we were to lose Ash then we could do a lot worse than put in a bid and see where it gets us.

Alan McGregor, Nedum Onuoha, Maynor Figueroa, Jean Makoun, and Guillaume Hoarau are all players I'd like us to take a look at.

I defo see us being in for Makoun in January, maybe Toulalan aswell?

I would expect central midfield to be the priority in January.

Toulalan's stock appears to have fallen a bit after France's debacle in the World Cup, possibly making a bid for him a viable option.

I can see this happening with Houllier in charge.  Anyone know how they got on together at Lyon?
