I'm not saying I would like us to go for Owen, but for those saying about the lackof creativity, a half fit Michael Owen (which is a mis-nomer I know) would have had a hat-trick last night.

That's if he is half fit though.

The likelyhood is that in a 9 month campaign he'll miss about 4-5 months.
And part of the time he is available again is the time he's struggling for match fitness.

Manure can afford that luxury, we can't.

I also read an interview with him before where he said he's spent most of his career playing for clubs either in the CL or competing for trophies (not his stint at Newcastle obv) and he'd struggle to get motivated playing for a 'smaller' club with very little at stake.

I think he also went on to say he'd rather be a squad player in a bigger team playing maybe 25/30 games (ambitious for him, I'd have thought) than a regular in a team not competing.

So the occasional run out for Manure against weaker CL opposition, in the LC or as sub suits him at this stage of his career.

Sounds like he's got one eye on retirement.

I just want someone who will run their socks off for 93 minutes...never give up on a fifty fifty ball, the kind of player who is skillful yet hard working and someone who fans can have an affinity with.

I don't think there are any players at the club at the moment who I really admire as players. I used to like watching Ian Taylor and Tommy Johnson, neither were world beaters but I liked the fact that they played for Aston Villa, someone like them would do...

Vila for life:  you're talking about replacing the player we just sold to Man City aren't you? :)

Know what you mean about players you can identify with and I agree but I think there's enough industry in the team.  We need a killer instinct up front and to settle on a system of playing a midfield containing the many decent options we have in there I reckon.

It's so irksome though, because we REALLY, REALLY do miss him. Our midfield looks half as good without Milner. Money grubbing shit!

Given, Flamini and Owen in Jan would be excellent IMO - all 3 would be good additions in different ways.

Big wages though, but counter balanced with small fees.

OzzJim, I had two of those down for Jan but sub Owen for Llorente( he would be a tough get mind you)

yes, olneythelonely, he's the one who I have a "soft spot" for at the moment. Decent player and proud to play for Aston Villa.

Until he gets a better offer from a Man City or similar. No player loves Villa like we do. Not even close.

If that comes across as cynical then so be it. I didnt think Milner would have his head turned and he did. Once bitten...

Flamini, yep.

Not sure about the others.  Well I am sure about Owen: no.

Llorente is a good shout but it would take silly money for Bilbao to be tempted. I'd look at Hoarau at PSG. Similar size and frame to JC, but younger and far less fitness concerns. In the summer it will be interesting to see where Newcastle are, if they've struggled or gone down again they might be tempted to cash in on Carroll. I'd still like to see how he gets on v other Prem sides though. He had a decent year last season in the Championship, and a good start to this season in the top flight. But he won't be facing an out of touch and overweight Richard Dunne every week.

Warnock impressed me immensely when he joined, I thought we had a proper player there. But his form has gradually been on the decline since Feb, to the point where he has started to become a weak link. My hope is that he can turn it around, but he couldn't pick a worse time really with GH rocking up. By all accounts he wasn't hugely impressed with him at Liverpool. I hope he stays, but if we're looking at a replacement we could do a lot worse than Taiwo at Marseille.

No thanks to Owen. Way past his best a long time ago. He USED to be a great player. Not any more.

However, if he could bring experience and knowledge to the table and maybe help Gabby, the Fonz, etc, it might be worth using him as a coach. Ferdinand at Spurs stylee.

Has there ever been any suggestion that he wants to get into coaching?
I've seen this suggested a few times and I'm not sure where it comes from.

I'd imagine he'll be more interested in his horses than wasting his time on a training pitch when he calls time on his career.

Coaches won't be commanding £40k + salaries either. So if he does have something to offer in that regard he should be viewed purely as a coach and not a player - with wages on a par with Sid Cowans and the like.

Think Friedel has another season in him but like the other two choices ............
