According to french paper Le Perisien. Duverne has been appointed as Aston Villa`s new fitness coach. Certainly hope he has no say in the "motivational" side after watching the french side in the world cup ......................

For me, that was our biggest loss when O'Neill left, losing Jim Henry. He was supposed to be one of the best in the business.

By all accounts he wasn't hugely impressed with him at Liverpool. .

Paper bollocks weren't it? As an incredulous Houllier said when asked about Friedel and Warnock being ostracised when he was at Liverpool ''Stephen Warnock was too young!'' Sending him out on-loan to get first team experience as a kid... hardly banishing him from the club. If the lazy journos had any brains they would have asked the question about Carew. He swapped him for Baros at Lyon, I'm intrigued to know what he makes of JC. We'll find out soon enough (when Emile starts every week...).

I hope the Owen rumours are true. He may be injury prone but as someone has said that didn't stop him appearing 31 times last season and bagging 9 goals, including a couple of fairly high profile ones like injury time the winner against Citeh and the equalizer in the LC Final. I don't know what his goals per minutes on the pitch ratio is like but I'd guess it compares favourably with Gabby's and is way beyond Heskey's.  Does he get more chance at United than he would get here? I don't necessarilly think so, we created plenty against West Ham and even against Newcastle and Stoke we could have had 3 or 4, we just couldn't put 'them away.  Whoever said his game relies on instinct and pace alone, and he has nothing to teach our strikers,  is talking utter nonsense.  Just watch his movement, how he finds space, the runs he makes across defenders - he could teach Gabby an awful lot about those things. He's a world class striker and I don't think we have yet reached the stage where we should be turning our noses up at those rare creatures if we can get them.

On SSN Houllier has admitted his interest in Micheal Owen.

Yes. I'd like to punch out Patrice Evra, so I can't blame him.

I find that a bit depressing because
1. It suggests Houllier is living in the past.  High fives: Owen and Heskey up front.
2. High wages for a 30-year old are a route to trouble (even on a small fee)
3. To accommodate Owen we'd need to go 442, which would mean dropping some of our better players.

The main plus point would be that he could coach Gabby and the Fonz decent movement and poaching skills.  Personally I think it'd be better/cheaper just to pay a specialist coach for that role.

Would he qualify as a bums on seat signing or has his injury record diluted his reputation? I'm always shocked at how young he is.

Loan deal until the end of the season wouldn't do any harm.

I would like to get Owen as long he is number 3 striker as long we find a partner for Agbonlahor and get rid of Heskey and Carew (if Gerard can't get them to perform)

Really don't agree with the "may as well" "got nothing to lose" stance towards signing Owen.
MON probably thought that when he signed Heskey for a nominal fee, but it's about the "opportunity cost" of the signing, i.e. the delay in then signing a "proper" striker, or the chances for younger strikers already at the club to come through.

After watching Bannan tonight against Man utd. Really think he is ready to be on the first team bench at least. A quality hat trick and totally outshone "bebe" who Man utd have just payed £7.4m for him. Man u`s "red cafe" could not praise Bannan enough ....
