Just a general point:

If the General's worried about the rags picking up his every word could this thread become invitation-only, like the Golden Muppets thread? We all appreciate his contact but something needs to be done.

I suggested a move to Muppets, but it wasn't a popular idea. I think the reasons given were sound enough to be fair.

Makes no difference as any reporter can become a muppet.

The only reason they were checking our forum is because we had no manager, I doubt everything he now says will be used.

I think the General needs to put a 'clause' on here saying ' This is not for publication in any form of media ( i.e. newspaper / internet / SMS etc) without the express permission of the auther'

General K I share the sentiments of previous posters, a good choice with G H. and please make sure that Kevin Mac gets a decent position and stays at Villa. Let's build a dynasty of future Managers.

Greetings from shaky Christchurch  :o

Could you comment on the comments that the new Managers made about him beliving we are "not on the same level as Liverpool" and that "It's a club that according to me has belonged between seventh and 12th place in the Premier League" implying Villa. I know you've said your disappointment in the reaction of Aston Villa fans with the appointment but I feel as though these statements could be misinterprited easily as though he's not compited to Aston Villa and would rather a role at Liverpool and I belive Villa should to be second best to anyone.

Dear General

Good that you have found a new manager, all the best wishes to Gerard Houllier. The media have had some stories about fans not being pleased with the appointment, but a survey on Villatalk says that 86% are happy with the appointment, so I hope you and Gerard Houllier feel you have some backing!

All the best for the future.

The statement by our new manager does not show him in a positive frame stating that Villa are a mid table team. Yes we have had our ups and downs but to state that he does not see Villa other than a 7th to 12th team does not agree with RL statement that he was aiming for a top  place.
If GH has not signed his contract then I suggest you put him on a slow ferry back to France with a one way ticket.

General, I'm an AVTV subscriber. As is its intent, it allows me to keep up with all things Villa while living away from home. Why on earth then would I not be able to watch the press conference with Gerard Houllier live? You can watch it on the BBC website, but only if you live in the UK. Surely you can empathise given like me you spend a lot of your time in North America. Mangerial appointments don't happen very often so this is a big deal and I am rather disappointed that this was not thought of. Please pass this on to whoever runs AVTV, though it will be too late to do anything about this now.

ps. I was able to watch a recorded version on AVTV eventually but my intial point stands. By the way, he looks like a very good choice. Very confident, laid back, and a proven winner with experience. Shame he can't take up the job straight away, but so be it. We'll hopefully look forward to many good years with him at the helm.

It'd say vice versa makes more sense! ;)

i want to congratulate the board on what could well be an inspired appointment.

Houllier looks like a born winner and the right man to take us forward.

Congratulations to the appointment! It seems that every time the board is rocked by events, they come out stronger.

General can you point Gerrard to the premier league website, he will find in the statistics section that we come 5th in the all time premier league table,

So we do not belong between 7th-12th, but towards the top of tge league competing for as much as possible.
