This place is chock full of hysterical, repetitive little schoolgirls at the moment, isn't it? If the club had announced .......... and, so far as I can tell, the future's still pretty bright.

Well said, that man.

I have to say, Houllier certainly seems as mad as a box of snakes.

The board have set the bar pretty high in terms of presentation, supporter liason, professionalism and general slickness over the last four years. The current situation falls a long way short of that IMO.

Sounds as though Randy has given him very  low objectives...like  "Please  just keep  us in the PL"

How do you work that one out?

Well read his  summing up of the task

"most interesting, in terms of the work environment, its working conditions"

Does not sound to me as his objectives have been set as "challenging"

And where does it say "Avoid relegation"? The way some are eager to put negatives into every word and every situation is beyond me.

Yeah I'm sorry Aftab, but I don't see that at all. I think GH said he was impressed by Villa's ambitions as well, so no idea where you're getting what you said from.

Having a history certainly isn't embarassing, having no history now that is embarassing.

Certainly not, but some Villa fans do have a propensity to live in the past, would you agree ?

We all accept the position that MON left the club/board in

Are you sure of that ?

I wonder how many of those not too keen to give Ged a chance were those most upset by Mon's departure, many of whom turned and still do on Randy,  because Ged hasn't been able to negotiate a quick exit similar to the one Mon engineered.

One thing I was encouraged by was when he said "We play for the fans. Our aim is to give them pleasure, to make sure they have a style that's entertaining.", which indicates a change of heart that I think he had at Lyon - that entertainment and style is more important than he thought.

And in particular one year. Maybe it's because we were never allowed to celebrate it under Doug, but 1982 is getting a bit repetitive now.

It's  clear you don't get what I am on about so we will leave it at that. The man's come to make some money for himself and I would rather he was set a more challenging task  than  how it  appears at the moment.

I don't think we get what you're going on about aftab, because you seem to be seeing stuff that isn't there. I'm sure he's fine for money, he said that Villa's ambitions attracted him.

You're absolutely right I don't understand what you're on about and where you get this about making money and avoiding relegation I don't know.

Slightly off thread but I wish to make the point.

I was, and still am very critical of the manner and timing of Martin O"Neill's departure.  However, when you consider that the best short list we could put together was the admirable Kevin McDonald, Curbishley and Houllier and then when we choose the least worst of the two experienced managers we choose a man who cannot start for three months, I see a clear question mark appearing beside the name of the chief executive.   How much of the turbulence and uncertainty which swirls around Villa Park presently is down to the competence of the chief executive.   Two weeks ago I would have said none.   Today I am not so sure.

Incredibly, he is even more elusive than our chairman. What does a 32 year old ex-relationship manager (whatever that is) from a credit card company know about running a football club like Aston Villa? He's had a truly awful first few months in the job.

It's not very often that I am stuck for words when someone takes the piss out of Villa but I honestly don't know what to say about the situation where we are holding a press conference to present Gerard Houllier as our new manager before he has even negotiated his release from an admin job at the French FA. We're behaving like a bunch of amateurs.

I live in hope like many  of you. Hoping to win the FA Cup every year and  win every game when we turn up at VP. Therefore my hope is best delivered by a Coach who fears no one and  aims very high.  I stopped being a ST holder when DOL started  killing my hope. I am a little concerned that so far  GH  with references to 7th to 12th and in   an answer to "Why pick a mid table PL team?"  he said " I had other offers"  but this  one had "good working conditions". Now you can read that in different ways I read it as "easy working conditions". That's all.
