i do not like that statement one bit...

there is trying to be realistic, and there is factually incorrect bollocks...

those comments are the latter...

obviously, it suits the mans agenda to play us down, so that if he does a good job and surpasses his own assessment, it makes him look a better manager, as redknobb has done in every job he has taken, but as an introduction to the fans, it really is a pr nightmare and a crock of shit...

but, as the new manager, we have to get behind him and forget about this nonsense... i am focusing on the positives he can bring to the club, so welcome to the club...

Its no surprise that MacDonald will pick the side, but it is quite the shock that Houllier won’t be at the ground.

I agree with Houllier in a pedantic way. Our average finish since 2000 is 9.3 which sits between 7th and 12th.

He could have said it differently, though.

The fact that a Franch chap has better English grammar than you bunch is quite saddening,  "that has belonged" let's conjugate the verb...

"Not on the same level as Liverpool" We finish above them last year I'm worried he's been out of the game too long with that comment that he doesn't see how poor Liverpool have been of late and it doesn't enfuse confidence. It seems to suggest that's how he feel about it right now not past experience!
I'm one of those people who belives that the Manager should of been British. I'll be seriously annoyed if KMac doesn't have a big say in team affairs because lets be honest with comments like this it doesn't seem as though he has much respect for the club and may just work out on us at any point like O'neil has (although I belive O'neil had great respect for the club") ! "belongs between seventh and 12th place in the Premier League" if that's all he aiming for now I would never appoint him seriously he won't be building a team more like demolishing it with those aim.  I really belive he's a backwards step he'll probably let A Young go to his beloved Liverpool in January and then say when a club of Liverpool's "level" comes in for the player it's had to say no!

I don't see the problem in starting next week, I don't think he would have had sufficient time to assess the best 11, far better that KMAC picks the team as he's spent all week with them.

I agree with Houllier in a pedantic way. Our average finish since 2000 is 9.3 which sits between 7th and 12th.

He could have said it differently, though.

Our average finish over the last 3 years is sixth, so why are we choosing to look at 2000 onwards, but let's not get bogged down with this. We are just using statistics to back our arguments.
I am slightly concerned he comes across as being DOL like in his opinion of us, however we have all heard the sycophantic views in the past as well, i think i would prefer the view from an outsider, it is probably more realistic.
The best description i have heard of us is they are "the best of the rest".
It's strange that we can criticise ourselves, but we get all defensive when ever someone else dares to do it, and we fawn all over someone who "blows smoke up our arse".
Interested to see what he says at the official press conference.

Those words are an English translation of something he said to le Figaro - the French Daily Mail. Pity the usual "lazy journalism"  dismissal of anything we don't like isn't in operation here.
