Solid name. Hopefully he'll stay the full 3 years and continue building on what MON achieved.

i am pretty disturbed by that Paulie, why the fuck would he say that? i did a google translation, my only hope is the context under which the questions were asked, if this gets publicised i can see trouble

Only on the internet would a throwaway line by a new manager raise even the slightest of eyebrows.
Would this be the same Dave Woodhall who was making a very strong (and plausible) case on here last week for appointing a man who recognised the stature of Aston Villa football club?
As mentioned above, the quote from the French newspaper is a considered opinion, not a throwaway line. Sounds like he's setting his sights low - above 12th could be seen as OK by these standards.

It's also the same Gerard Houllier who talks well about the Villa's history and how he hopes to make improvements. You can take it whichever way you want.

7th-12th has really pissed me off. And it is day 1.

He ia really an arse.  Saying 7 to 12  for a club that sits in  5th position  in the overall points tally since Sky invented football is a disgrace.  In terms of  since  Will McG invented football we are 3rd behind Manu and Lpool for overall honours.  I do hope he clears this up otherwise .... I am equally pissed off...do not want another DOL.

Our average league finish in the PL is 8th, he's spot on. Overall points tally is meaningless.

Wasn't one of the main planks of your argument for O'Neill that he increased our points total last season?

A points total in a particular sesason is obviously important, a cumulative points total compared to other clubs some of who were not in the league for the whole time tells you little.

Points totals are impoprtant to suit your arguments and irrelevant for anyone else's. Nice to see you consistent as ever.

I'm looking at the fact he says he wants us to progress, that'll do for me. Also the fact he had a number of options, but chose us.

Not sure how informed the writer is about Lerner, but it is the Mirror so it's probably bollocks:

What on earth are you talking about? It's nothing to do with twisting arguments to suit, it is pointing out that you're not comparing like with like, so statistically it is worthless. If one club has 200 points from 5 seasons and another has 199 points from 3 seasons who is likely to have been the most succesful even though the raw data says that one figure is higher than the other?

We've got a higher overall points total than Chelsea. Have we been a more succesful side in the PL era? Last season we had more points than Liverpool, so we were better than them. The season before they had more than us so were better than us.

More than Chelsea? Wouldn't be too sure about that. The fact that we've been in the Premier League throughout its history is worth mentioning as well, and shows that we are more successful than you, for some reason, would give us credit for. Why you wish to do the club down is beyond me.

I can't believe the negativity some people have towards G-Dog. Oh yes - he will be known as G-Dog from now on for me. Thanks to a mate who reads these parts. Thanks Mad Dog.

Henry Winter (or Mrs Martin O'Neill as he is better known), err, tweeted this earlier this afternoon

Quote
henrywinter

Patrice Bergues following Houllier to #AVFC. #Liverpool players really enjoyed Bergues training sessions (tho he did recommend buying Diouf)

Which sounds promising. If you ignore the Diouf thing.

I couldn't resist adding another subroutine to this fine set of nested procesures.
