One paragraph in an interview with a French newspaper and already people are making comparisons with that self-serving tosser O’Leary and some are incandescent with rage.

The world wide web, introducing you to idiots since 1990.

While I'm not bowled over by the appointment, as a Villa fan I will get fully behind our new manager and hope he will bring us success.

I have just 1 small problem with supporting a French manager.  He's French.  It's a well known fact that the French dislike the English, and ever since they started taking all their industrial disputes straight to the Channel ports, I've been happy to reciprocate the feeling and have studiously boycotted all things French, including their wine. I'm now going to have to swallow my pride (and maybe their wine) and go back on my principals.

And on the subject of wine, as Brits are the only people to refer to a certain are of wine as 'Claret', will we now become the Bordeaux and Blues?

Yes, I have been watching for the last 12 months, I just don't read things in the way you do.

If MON was in some way responsible for Milner wanting to leave, would the same not be true of SAF (Tevez) or Wenger (Adebayor) or Moyes (Lescott)?  No, I think that money talks in all these cases and find it odd that only in our case did the manager have something to do with it.

And you can't in one hand argue about the overpaif unused players and in the other say these players are good enough and should be used more.  If we had sold them we couldn't use them!

I think Clark had a job to get in as we were so well covered at CB.  Not so with albrighton, but then he's looked a LOT better now than when he did get his chances last season, so maybe this is just his time?

I wouldn't argue that everything was right under MON, but I would argue that most things were and there was no rot.  We hear these rumours about player unrest, such as Warnock, but why focus on that instead of Ashley Young (our best player) saying during pre-season he wants to stay and sign a new contract?

Any manager who takes over a club that finished 6th and reached a cup final has a LOT to work with and is coming in at a good time.

I said that MoN's ability to push us further than 6th MAY have played a part in Milner's move to Eastlands. I acknowledged that it was probably mostly to do with money. But there wasn't a great deal that Villa could offer over Man City was there? MoN included.

As for the players, can I argue that they're overpaid yet good enough? Of course I can! If they're not being used, they're over-paid. If they have the ability to offer something, then perhaps they aren't. Simple. MoN wasn't going to give them a chance to prove this, hence, they were a waste of resources. This has been gone over time and time again.

I think everyone could see that rot was setting in. I suspect even MoN knew it in the end, hence the silence from him. I'm sure, given his record of voicing his opinion, that if he felt he'd was completely in the wrong, something would have been said by now.

Oh there was rot alright. It took a lot of people (happy clappers like me) a long time to realise it but it was there. And it wasn't getting any better.

Overreaction! Says the man, overreacting.

I think GH is a good appointment, i just thought it was a bit daft to be quite so negative on day one.

Actually, I don't think it is a "good" appointment,  i think it is an excellent one, which the board have put some clever thought into.

Far from the absence of GH on that list suggesting he wasn't good enough, i think it shows how widely they considered the options.

it just seems like he wants another big club before he retires and this is a stepping stone !!

What, at 63?

yea !!  hodgson is 65 and just took over liverpool,  fergie is nearly at the point when he cant control his bladder and he is still managing ( granted he has been there for ever )  if houllier is still as good as everyone says he is, he will have his 2 year contract here and when he is 65 take over at somewhere else

So in that case we'll be in no worse a position than we are now (he'll hardly be able to use us as a stepping stone if Villa go downhill), you'll have seen that back of a manager you don't like and you'll be able to tell everyone how right you were.  Sounds like a good deal from your point of view.

Yeah I'm talking about you Paulie, you silly goose. You started the ball rolling and now you've had some really loons jump on your bandwagon of despair.

Nah I wasn’t really talking about you to be honest. More PMK. He's bloody mad he is isn't he?!

I think it unlikely that Houllier coming to work in this country for the third time "dislikes the English".

Ged is from Normandy, which like Gascony, is English land. Therefore he’s alright.

Thinking he might be successful is possibly unique in reasons to be against a new manager.

Neil Moxley (we wont mention his "paper") on the money again >> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1310418/Aston-Villa-fans-support-club--new-manager-Gerard-Houllier.html?  "Aston Villa fans must support their club... even if they can't get behind new manager Gerard Houllier".   Who's this Woodhall chap who claims to speak for us all? :0)

No, but The General has given him a gift of some chocolates and nylons.
