Favourite Ever Villa Game
« on: August 27, 2010, 08:27:42 PM »
I dont think i could find a topic on this so please correct me if there is!
Ill start the ball rolling in any cases. My personal favourite is the 3 2 win over everton when ashley scored with the last kick. The whole ground shouting who are ya and everton at us and Ashley pulled off something rather special. Need i say more?

Blackburn in the League Cup has to be up there, but my favourite has to be Sunderland away in the cup, winning on pens with Guzan pulling off save after save. Was also my first away match that we won, though I've only been to four.

1970/71 League Cup semi final beating Man U 2-1 at Villa Park after drawing the first leg 1-1 at Old Trafford.
We were in the third division then and they had Best, Law and Charlton. 62,500 in the ground with Lochhead and Pat Mcmahon scoring for Villa. We probably performed better in the first game but for the sheer unadultered passion, emotion and excitement beating the might of man u to get to the final - this was my favourite game ever.

Skipping over the obvious, of the games I've been to, the Blackburn cup game last season was bizarre but brilliant. Being 2-0 down to Arsenal and coming back to win was also very memorable.

Yes, that was a magic night playing a side who had won the European Cup two years earlier. Also the 2-1 vs Bournemouth with 48110 inside Villa Park.

So many. Nods to the selections so far but if I had to choose one game to re-live it would be the game at Hillsborough where we clinched promotion back to the 1st division with a 4-0 victory. It was the achievement of the promised land for so many who had been there through our seemingly terminal decline. On the pitch when the game was over , it washed over me in great waves that we were back and no-one could take it away from us. Cried like a baby

I'm not sure I can narrow it down. Right up there are the 1996 League Cup final, John Gregory's first game against Liverpool, the home game against Athletico Madrid, victory at Anfield last season, 2-2 home draw with Newcastle in 1996/1997, victory at Old Trafford last season.

However, the 3-2 at Goodison was special.

It cheered me up no-end at a quite difficult period in my life and I don't think I will ever forget it!

While my favourite Villa moment would have to be Young's winner at Goodison I think the 5-1 against Blues edges it in terms of the 90 minutes in general.
