The worrying thing is though that Newcastle will struggle to stay up this season, and they have ripped us a new one today.

3-0 followed by 4-0 with 15 mins to go, at least we're not boring and predictable eh?

This performance is not acceptable in any way, shape or form.

I don't understand what it is that we are trying to do out there.

Hands up who managed to under-estimate how much work Milner did in the middle?

I don't think we underestimated it.  I think most of us assumed that at least one defensive minded player would play to compensate for losing Milner.

The lack of fight is very worrying. The players would never have shown this lack of fight under MON.

He's played well, Guttierez. Which is annoying, because he's not very good, really.

It's true that there's been some overstatement, but it has been a particularly dire performance. I think it's fair that most of us will be recalibrating our expectations of the season today. We have a thin squad, and in Warnock, L. Young, Friedel, Carew and Petrov we have players in key positions who are looking really shaky for reasons of form and age, but we have no ready replacements for. There is also a lack of apparent leadership beyond Dunne.

We're really missing Gabby, Collins and Cuellar (any arguments about him being right back now?), and the full squad is missing strength and threat in the midfield and up front. And a manager.

Without being funny, this kind of game is why England will never win a World Cup. These tactics of Newcastle's - ludicrously physical - have gone totally unpunished all game. I'm not saying we're brilliant or that with better refereeing we wouldn't be losing, but there's no doubt that this Neanderthal 'style' Newcastle are being allowed to get away with would be impossible anywhere else in the world because of refereeing. Because of this, or possibly along with this, other countries put themselves under more stress to produce technically better players. If this is football in England, we've got no chance.

we need either
Muamba 6' 2"
Moussa Sissoko 6'2"
Mikel 6' 2"
Jack Rodwell see above

basically a big central midfielder any of the above will do

Does that automatically mean that every player we have is shit and that the board and owner are clueless and that our caretaker manager is shit? No, of course it doesn't.
Do I expect sober and rational analysis? No, unfortunately not, it would be nice though wouldn't it?
It would but the match thread, mid-game, is not a reasonable place to expect it.

Besides, you're exaggerating wildly in saying that posters have claimed every player we have is shit and that the board and owner are clueless and that our caretaker manager is shit.
