Clue: This guy is 58 when the picture was taken. He would now be in his 60s

Does anyone know how he died so young?"Slogger" was centre half at Villa when I started in 1966. Along with Hateley he was one of the more accomplished players in a struggling side. Son of a dutch paratrooper he made the trip across to small heath, from memory I think it was for £45,000. Knee injuries forced him to retire at 28. I believe he lived round Birmingham after his playing days finished. He lost his battle with leukemia and died aged 45 in 1989. RIP.
